One of the pinnacles of Western classical music, played by a master
+ Rostropovich at his finest. + A Master At One With His Instrument
It is difficult to know what to add to the many useful and intelligent reviews already posted on Amazon, but anyone who owns this recording feels the compulsion to share his enthusiasm with other music lovers. While other cellists - particulalry Casals and Fournier - have made indispensable records ...

Sibelius: The Seven Symphonies [Box Set] Jean Sibelius, Simon Rattle, ...
Angel Records, 2002
A highly desirable set
There is a lot of competition out there. The big Paavo Berglund box set seems to have it all on EMI. Then, there is the excellent Davis/BSO set on Philips - not to mention his newer LSO cycle on RCA. Rattle has some unique touches not found in other cycles so he can't not be easily dismissed. ...

Mozart: The Symphonies Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Charles Mackerras, ...
Telarc, 1991
Great sound, great music-making - Mackerras best Mozart
+ Simply Perfect + Outstanding Performances
Mackerras has made some pretty amazing recordings these last years, from Beethoven's 9th to Mahler's 5th. This set has Mackerras conducting the Prague Chamber Orchestra, an ensemble that has definetely studied Mozart and studied him well. Most if not all the symphonies are first class but I have ...

Works for Solo Piano Schumann, Ashkenazy
Decca, 2003
beautifully played, wonderful and overlooked pieces
+ Wonderful music, great playing, even better price + This is well worth the price
This set is a remarkable value. Yes, you could choose some individual performances of certain works that are better, but for the price, this is a remarkable set. Ashkenazy is sympathetic to these wonderful and often overlooked solo piano compositions. Highly recommended.
