The Ten-Year Nap Meg Wolitzer
Riverhead Hardcover, 2008
Beautiful Eloquent Novel
+ Good book, but just started it
Meg Wolitzer does an amazing job of creating interesting multi dimensional characters. I was so engrossed in the lives of the women. This is a beautiful character study of moms and the choices they have to make and how that effects everything. The varying viewpoints and flashbacks enrich this ...

The Somnambulist Jonathan Barnes
William Morrow, 2008
Wickedly funny
This book was so much fun to read. As the author warns - it is perhaps without any literary merit whatsoever. But it is good, good fun. Silly, bizarre and quirky to the end. A great beach read for those who like well written prose about crazy, nonsensical characters on an equally crazy adventure.

Wit's End Karen Joy Fowler
Putnam Adult, 2008
Very Enjoyable
+ The Wit Continues
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was charming and gentle, but held my attention throughout. I enjoyed the descriptions of the setting, and the whole premise of the story. I can easily see myself rereading it several years from now. Bravo!

The Philosopher's Apprentice: A Novel James Morrow
William Morrow, 2008
Morrow's brilliance continues
+ To Morrow, tomorrow + Four Stars
James Morrow continues to poke Western society in its most sensitive spots, never resorting to the cudgel, and always making us laugh, chortle, or smirk even as we wince. The Philosopher's Apprentice continues the grand Morrow tradition, slaughtering the sacred cows of cloning, abortion, the value ...

After Hours at the Almost Home Tara Yellen
Unbridled Books, 2008
A Rising Star at the "Almost Home"
+ This book will be a movie one day + Great read
Tara Yellen has a way with words that describes places, people and their lives in a way that compels you to keep turning the page. The setting is a bar in Denver on Super Bowl Sunday, not a locale that I know - or didn't - until I read Ms. Yellens first novel. She breathed life into her characters ...

Playing For Pizza: A Novel John Grisham
Doubleday, 2007
While not the usual, it was enjoyable nonetheless
+ Good, easy read
John Grisham is a talented writer who, even after becoming very predictable, can still tell stories in a manner that quickly captivates the reader. This book is quite a different approach altogether though from his usual lawyer formula. While I kept waiting for something to happen that never ...
