I loved this film when I was 16, and I love it still, 26 years later! Cassavetes owes a lot to Shakespeare of course, whose stories are always timeless, but he and the actors, Susan Sarandon and Molly Ringwald in the beginning of their careers, create such a warm mood in the film.
