+ Great 'Tubering' + Rockin
As a former student of Gene Pokorny, I must say that he is as great of a teacher as he is as a performer. I was thoroughly impressed with his great musicianship in this CD - it is a recommeded must own for any tubist...or any of those composers out there who don't believe that the tuba can be ...

Concertos for Brass Edward Gregson, Gordon Langford, ...
Chandos, 1994
Full of grandiose melancholy
Gregson is a sadly underexposed composer, but this CD gives us a chance to hear his most wonderful work, the tuba concerto. Played with a touching delicacy, we hear here the deep melancholy which affected Gregson as he laboured to produce the piece. The beauty of the opening movement is ...

Another Wonderful Gould Recording!
.
Along with Schoenberg, Hindemith was one of Gould's favorite composers--and one who's cultural stock was elevated because of Gould's advocation and artisitc realizations. The various sonatas for piano and brass instruments are a case in point. Beethoven dashed off a sonata for piano and French ...

PERFECT BRASS CD
Dowings playing is very touching and tears come out when I hear the 4th movement of "Six Studies...". Other songs in this CD are songs which I heard for the first time but are really good choices. I recomend this CD to every person and especially those in a concert band.

A must for the serious orchestral tuba player!!!
+ tubadude + Gene Pokorny=Pimp
Mr. Pokorny has created a superior CD of orchestral tuba parts. His spoken comments are insightful and his playing is top notch. As a prospective orchestral tuba player, I have found this CD extremely helpful in my preparation for orchestral auditions. This is a must for the serious tuba ...

Great tuba playing; bad recording
Roger Bobo is one of the great tubists. The sheer beauty and emotional content of his playing on "Westwood" and the technical virtuosity of his playing on "Yellow Bird" are worth the price of the album. On the last two cuts, he plays Bass French Horn--and where else are ya gonna hear that?! ...

Decent tuba CD
I (being Sherrie's son, an accomplished high school tuba player) bought this CD for the recording of the Broughton Tuba Sonata. It's the only one available that I know of. The playing on the disc is very good; I especially like the tuba/trombone quintets at the end. Velvet is an amazing tuba ...

Makin' Whoopee Sam Pilafian

Great fun!
+ Wonderful
The title song of this CD was the wedding dance for my husband and I. As a clarinet and tuba playing couple the duet on this song was truly unique. The added lyrics for "Makin' Whoopee" were also extremely appropriate. The remainder of the CD has a light and fun sound with some old favorites and ...
