SCUBA magazine = GREAT

This is a great magazine if you are into SCUBA. Quite a few ads but the photos are awesome!

Good magazine, especially for traveling divers

Rodale's Scuba Diving magazine is probably the most widely read scuba-related magazine around for good reason. It covers diverse topics, has very nice photography, has good travel resources, information on interesting destinations, and articles on scuba diving techniques, equipment and safety.

The magazine is sometimes criticized for not being more critical of equipment or resorts. While I think it is true they are not as objective as they could be, this is not uncommon for large-market magazines. After all, they need people as advertisers to stay afloat. When you read a magazine like this, you have to understand that and keep it in perspective.

There are other magazines out that do better equipment reviews (the UK's Diver Magazine), more critical destination reviews (Undercurrent), and have more spectacular photography (Fathoms), but for overall diverse coverage of diving, this magazine is my first choice. In particular, I think Rodales is a great magazine to read if you regularly do dive travelling. I have found they frequently give me destination ideas I wouldn't have come up with on my own.

Diverse Articles in Scuba Diving

This is a great magazine if you're looking for diverse subjects every month...such as summaries of dive destinations (although there is a big emphasis on warm water / caribbean locations), they tell you about other people's accidents and provide good insight to avoid your own! They are open to "less expensive" gear options, and give fair reviews, which is great for the recreational / occassional diver who doesn't need to spend beaucoup bucks! If you find Dive Training mag too heavy on training details and lessons, this could be the new magazine for you!

Find Some New Gear, Visit a New Coastline

Scuba Diving is a sporting/travel magazine written mainly for those who enjoy the recreational sport of scuba diving. This magazine takes you to the best diving spots, introduces you to the best scuba gear, and offers instructional advice and tips to make the sport more enjoyable.

This magazine is, first and foremost, a publication for divers. Readers can read about flashlights, underwater watches, fins, water suits, tanks, regulators, and other gear used by divers. There is also much information to be shared about photography, dealing with the risks naturally present when under the sea, and learning the proper way to use different types of equipment.

Scuba Diving is not an activity I partake in and I can recall only one time when I attached an oxygen tank to my back and viewed the world under water. So, it would seem like I would be a poor spokesman for a magazine on scuba diving. But that isn't the case, for Scuba Diving Magazine is also a publication about general travel. Several of the features and departments, in fact, are dedicated to basic travel and cruising and these articles can be enjoyed by anyone. Yes, they usually point out good places to dive but they also include general travel information on what to see when above sea level.

Overall, I find Scuba Diving to be a good magazine with plenty of colorful photos of undersea plant and animal life, good advice on diving, and some fun adventure travel to coastlines around the world. It is intended mostly for divers, but it does have some general articles that any travel junkie can enjoy.
