I taught him to play soft with occasional loud and he just goes to town on the set. Well built with replaceable heads. They look pretty sharp and it appears that they will last for a long time. He loves it and so do his 2 younger brothers! The sound is great and the drums are well built and sturdy. My boys have drummed hard on the skins and there isn't even a dimple (their friends have too - they all want to play!) Ok and I will admit my husband and I have sat down on the seat (yep it held us) and banged a few jam sessions ourselves. This is great fun and a great starter set for an up and coming drummer. This is a well made drum set. I believe this set will last through years of pounding.
