Decca Broadway presents the cast recording for the acclaimed new Broadway production, SPRING AWAKENING. Written by pop music composer Duncan Sheik and playwright/lyricist Steven Sater, the musical explores emotional earthquakes in the lives of teenagers.

SPRING AWAKENING is based on Frank Wedekind's controversial 1891 drama, which was scandalous in its day for addressing sex violence and suicide. The story, dialogue and costumes suggest the 19th Century, and are perfectly wedded to a beautiful alternative pop music score by Grammy® nominated singer/songwriter Duncan Sheik. The creative team also includes Tony® Award Winning director Michael Mayer (Thoroughly Modern Millie) and legendary choreographer Bill T. Jones.

So excellent!

The songs on this CD are so great. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and it's sexy too. The songs are so poignant and they also rock. Totally genius!

The show was truly great and almost life changing. I just can't get enough of this CD!

Who can't love this show! Duncan Sheik and Stephen Slater are in total Zen! Worth every penny!

I have unfortunately not seen the show, but I've been addicted to the soundtrack for a while now. I recently rediscovered it after forgetting about it for a while (like ya do) and it's even more clear to me know how great the songwriting and storytelling in this musical really are. The music fully captures the emotion of the show, and it shines through in the soundtrack even if you haven't seen it live. Songs like and "Touch Me" and "The Guilty Ones" leave you floored, and great tracks like "The Bitch of Living" and "My Junk" are fun and upbeat while still able to express all the confusion and hormone-induced craziness that the characters are going through.

This is awesome stuff. Taking into account its modernity and subject, it completely deserves comparison to the greats. No question.

Home with a Ghost

I have been curious about this music for awhile. Without having seen the stage show, I have come to enjoy the music from the bubbly "Mama Who Bore Me" to the disturbing rocker "The B**ch of Living." "Touch Me" sounds like it shined in the show. "The Mirror Blue Night" haunts with a lovely melody, "I went home with a ghost who got left in the cold who knocks at my peace with no keys to my soul." "I Believe" is a lovely anthem, "There is love in heaven." The strings on "Don't Do Sadness/Blue Wind" are lovely as the melody builds, "I've done my time looking back on it all & it blows my mind." My favorite track is the pop rock "Totally F'd" with its great tension and profanity. The closer "The Song of Purple Summer" floats gracefully and then billows to a lovely conclusion. "Spring Awakening" is a worthy soundtrack. Enjoy!
