Kindle lover
I have been using the Kindle since last November and have used in daily even when I travel. I decided I would not cut down any more trees in furthering my education. It is light and portable. No more holding books with 1200 pages until my wrists hurt! I love the fact that the text can be adjusted. I never have a problem seeing the text. I used to buy the bestsellers as soon as they were published and then I needed to store the books. Now, I can buy them for one-third the price and can put them on a memory card.
In going through security in Helsinki, Finland the screen of my Kindle was destroyed and Amazon replaced it. I was thrilled! If I were to change one thing it would be the position of the next page buttons. I press it inadvertantly and then have to find my place. I also would like to be able to check back to different sections of the book without then trying to find where I was. Page numbers are easier for me to find than text numbers. Overall I rate the Kindle with 5 stars, I love the Kindle and use it daily!
edifying
I heard about the Kindle from a fellow physical therapy patient who went on and on about the wonderfulness of his Kindle. His enthusiasm convinced me to investigate the product
Now I am extolling the virtues of my Kindle! When I have a need for a new book at 11pm I just order one and my book is on my Kindle in seconds! I get so enthusiastic that I call it the "Amazing Kindle" instead of the Amazon Kindle.
My favorite feature is the capability of going to the search function to learn the meaning of a word. I no longer have to write down the word, reference the page number of the book I'm reading, and go to the dictionary.
Love mine BUT needs refining...
I have had my Kindle for a couple of weeks now and I am several chapters into my first book...
Things I like...
1. Easy to read... adjustable font and the print on the screen is excellent... I still need my glasses for clarity but this is Kindles nicest feature.
2. Whispernet downloads are nice but I have not found it to be as fast as they claim... my first book was rather large and took about 15 minutes to download.
3. Book prices are good, sometimes great. I bought Les Miserables for $2.99!
4. Battery life is good. I usually keep my antenna off, so keep in mind this is my opinion with it off.
Things I don't like...
1. It is quite a bit heavier than I thought it would be.
2. Because it is heavy, you got to hold on to it... and the side mounted page turners are in the way and too easy to turn the page by accident.
3. The book cover that comes with it is not well designed... I use it to more easily hold the unit while reading BUT you have to use the elastic band on the right side to hold the unit in the cover.
Things I have not tried...
1. Wikipedia
2. Online book shopping (I ordered mine through my PC)
3. Music on my kindle
4. Documents or pictures
I love the kindle but...
1. I think the navigation bars are too long. Much of this press-able area should provide a solid area in order to get a firm grasp of the unit. Far too many times I've accidentally pressed next or previous and got lost in the fray.
2. I also think the look-up, highlight and note feature, accessible via the scroll bar, is useful, but being able to save and later retrieve a personal dictionary of looked up words is practicable and could be a selling point.
3. Also, each medical title or reference work needs an index. The search button and look-up isn't adequate. It's easier to read a hard copy reference work. The costs, for kindle or hard copy titles, are the same. 4. Every single book or title needs a table of contents. Organizing information for easy reference is not an option in real life applications unless you are reading a novel, where viewing one page at a time is acceptable. The location concept is great and understandable in a device where font changes move pages about but built in bookmarks, etc., is more practicable. Right now I have no idea what exists in any particular location, without an index or table of contents.
5. The container or case is nice to the touch and smart looking but it does not hold the unit adequately. I've been hit in the forehead a couple times when trying to position myself to lay down and read. The thing tumbled out of the holder and down on my face, unexpectedly.
6. A built-in-light on the top face of the unit, collapsible, flat and flush with the unit itself, when not in use, sporting an adjustable light would enhance the kindle.
7. The keyboard should pull out from the bottom and maybe fold back on the face, or have a connected but removable cover. In the place it now exists it is a waste of space. There needs to be more room for firmly holding the unit while reading without the fear of accidentally pressing a button.
8. The on and off and wireless buttons inconveniently located. This is not a major disadvantage but a disadvantage nevertheless.
9. Finally I love reading on the kindle and do not regret my purchase. The best feature is immediate access to titles. I know there are features I've yet to explore but I still would recommend the device.
add pdf files and library ebooks
I am considering the purchase of a kindle. I am waiting until the kindle can read pdf files and download ebooks from my local library. Then it will be the ultimate ebook!
