Australia released, PAL/Region 4 DVD: it WILL NOT play on standard US DVD player. You need multi-region PAL/NTSC DVD player to view it in USA/Canada. Languages: o English (Dolby Digital 2.0) Synopsis: Hal Hartley's second excursion to absurd suburbia, Trust offers audiences the surreal farce and deadpan wit that Hartley made his calling cards. It also offers a surprisingly touching romance, marked by wry irony and universally resonant concerns, centering on trust as a substitute for love. Trust also works as a calm, unforced, deeply precise meditation on identity, and the ways in which it can be built, destroyed, and re-formed into something new and unanticipated. Clad in purple lipstick and a neon mini-skirt at the film's beginning, Maria (Adrienne Shelly) gradually transforms into a serious, intelligent young woman, with glasses and pulled-back hair. It's a believable transformation, thanks to Shelly's remarkable performance; one of the film's truest moments comes when Maria writes in her diary, "I am ashamed. I am ashamed of being young. I am ashamed of being stupid." Fortunately, in Martin Donovan's Matthew, Maria finds someone who understands this. Donovan makes no apologies for his character's difficult personality, making the misanthropic, emotionally stunted repairman's idiosyncrasies raggedly endearing. He and Shelly navigate the flat Formica landscape of Hartley's dialogue with great ease, their blunt, no-frills performances forming the heart of an ornery but immensely satisfying film. Special Features: o Cast/Crew Interview(s) o Interactive Menu o Photo Gallery o Scene Access o Short Film

TRUST is what it's all about!

My God! I can't begin to tell you how much I loved this movie!!

This has to be one of the most original and thoughtful semi-serious-funny-romantic/non-romantic movie I've ever seen and it stands out in it's originality and feel to anything that I can recall that came before it and after it.

Hollywood sure doesn't have what it takes to release a movie such as this anymore. This was the first movie I became aquainted or rather introduced to both Martin Donovan and Ms. Shelley and Donovan's portrayal of the aptly named "Matthew Slaughter" has stuck in my mind ever since I first saw this movie. Yeah I was happy to finally see him again in movies such as "Pipe Dream" and most recently "Saved!" but Matthew Slaughter has lived on in my imagination now for God knows how long.

Can't help it, whenever I think of Martin Donvoan, I got to think of Matthew, plus Adrienne Shelley's "Maria" is another of the standout characters that has affected me.

Love the film, love the soundtrack, and you wouldn't believe how long I've searched both far and wide on the net to try to find the music to this film, but it's next as impossible to finding the actual film itself.

Why in God's name is this movie released only for a region 4 and not able to be viewed here in the US? Who the hell makes these decisions anyway? Don't they know this film is loved and respected greatly here in America? As for me I have no proof ofcourse but I chalk things like this up to Anti-American bias. That's got to be the reason why these things just do not show up here and yet get released around the rest of the world.

Please put a stop to this madness and release the movie HERE! in America! and stop screwing around please if you will. Geez! Too much is too much. I get the message already, stop withholding from us!

Peace, everyone.

Truly amazing, deserves better support from its Studio

This movie is considered the best Hal Hartley ever, even if some Hal Hartley aficionados may prefer Surviving Desire or Simple Men, But TRUST is the movie that grabs even non fans. As why it is not released in the US is hard to understand. I'm from the UK and Have to buy low quality region 1 DVDs as they are not released in the UK. this one is interesting as it is an Australian PAL import, so I get the better quality video. If you are a US Resident, do not worry, PAL video is better, each frame of film equals a frame of video, it runs at 25 frames per second and it has more pixels per frame, so you are watching a more film like experience. Regions on DVDs are just another bad idea from the Hollywood studios, but 90% of european DVD players are region free and if you look for your DVD model on the web, I am sure you will find a code to "region Free" it. as why the rights owner doesn't release all Hal Hartley movies in all countries, it is another story.

Great indy film

Trust is a great movie about genuine characters dealing with real life issues. This is a must see film!

Black Humor, White Trash

If you like John Waters films (particularly "Female Trouble" and "Pink Flamingos") but were disappointed that they didn't quite clear the hurdle to being funny, then "Trust" is for you.

"Trust" is the follow-on to "The Unbelievable Truth," and features many of the same actors and themes. "The Unbelevable Truth," however, is a screwball romantic comedy, while "Trust" is flat-out black humor. If you're planning to watch both, watch "The Unbelievable Truth" first.

I spent the first half of "Trust" laughing, but wondering whether Hal Hartley intended it to be funny. By the end, it becomes clear that he did; this is one very funny film.
