Winner of the European iF Design Award, the Canteen double wall glasses can be use the whole year round. You can use them for your cold drinks in summer and hot drinks in winter. They are made of a very strong but yet light weight glass (borosilicate glass). They can safely go in the dishwasher and microwave. No coaster needed. Bodum's insulated glassware is made from durable Borosilicate glass. Borosilicate glass is a strong heat-resistant glass that weighs less than traditional glassware. Used to make scientific lab glass, borosilicate glass (medical grade glass) is stronger than traditional "soda-lime" glass and can be used for everything from drinkware to cookware. Some people may perceive the glass to be "thin" as they hold it. It is important to understand the difference between borosilicate and soda lime glass. Borosilicate glass doesn't need to be as thick as traditional glass to be just as strong. Borosilicate is simply a different type of glass that is resistant to temperature swings and scratching. Beautiful and Functional

I like my bodum glasses so much I ordered another set. These glasses look nice and do insulate well. Warning: when they break, they explode into tiny little pieces.

I have owned 2 sizes (12 glasses total) for a year and a half and my first break was 2 days ago through my own inattention. I wasn't looking and hit the side of the stainless steel sink. If I had been paying attention this never would have happened. I wash them usually in the dishwasher but also by hand. I've NEVER had water get in between the 2 layers.
The glasses look good, dress up "every day" uses and I definitely will keep them among my glasses.

The Perfect Glass For Those of Us Who Want Our Drinks to Stay COLD!

I like a cold drink. I also like drinks with ICE. You will be amazed at how long ice will last in these glassed before melting. So not only will these glasses keep drinks cold (without ice) like for beer but they seem to last forever for drinks (with ice) - like for soda or water. There is also zero condensation so no need for coasters to protect you tables (this alone can make these worth it). The outside of the glass remains dry and your hands remain dry so the glass remains clean.

They are expensive and they are extremely FRAGILE (like other reviewers have said) and they will break. But if you are like me, it's a trade-off you are willing to live with.

Love them!

These are great glasses for hot or cold and we love that you don't need a coaster. No fifth star because they are very breakable and some glasses have a tiny hole from the glass blowing which can allow liquid in, impossible to get out. Hand wash and be gentle when using ice cubes!
