THE ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES: Original Theatrical Trailer DR. PHIBES RISES AGAIN!:

Just Great!

I've seen these two movies many years ago, in theater, and they still good today in DVD. Sort of black humor. Just Great!

Vincent rises again

Vincent Price brings Love,Pain and Revenge to the screen. He adds a
theatrical flare to the demise of his nemesis. Both movies are classics
and it is great having them available, packing then together is a great
value and horror experience. Injoy! Theater Of Blood goes well with
this movie.Another classic Vincent Price movie.

Abominable Fun

This DVD features 2 classic Vincent Price films. The Abominable Dr Phibes and Dr Phibes rises again. Both made in the early 70s.
The first, The Abominable Dr Phibes features Vincent Price revenging his dead wife by killing the medical staff responseable for her death in a variety of spectacular ways. This black comedy is very camp and loads of fun.
Highly recommended.
The second is the sequel, Dr Phibes Rises Again, this time after having risen, Dr Phibes takes the body of his wife to Egypt in search of a mysterious river that promises eternal life. Again any one who gets in the way suddenly dies in some of the most bizzare ways, which include being stuffed in a six foot bottle and cast into the sea.

Not as good as the first, but still loads of fun.

Dr Phibe Clockwork Band Plays On In This Arty Horror-Comedy

Flashy, silly and pretentious. Makes like a horror film, sadistic yet a comedy. Arty yet riveting. And sometimes a bit too linear a plot and boring, sorry.

I did a little background check on this -- it seems Vincent Price wanted to play a campy script straight, as he felt the audience would get the camp. Mel Brooks tried the same in Young Frankenstein, but Price felt Brooks forgot the horror in place of the comedy.

But, I digress.

Nine people die, the same doctors and nurse that were at Phibes' wife's operating room. The deaths are based on the 10 plagues of Egypt. The ingenuity (bats in a room) and the bizarre (rats in a plane -- no snakes, different movie) and locusts eating someone's face down to the skull. Powerful sleeping pills, huh?

At the end of each death, violins play.

The confrontation of Phibes with the lead surgeon played by Joe Cotten was especially fervent.

The sets I was especially impressed with. The London police were all basically there just for show -- playing it odd, as only the English can be in these types of films.

It was a Price favorite. Perhaps it will be for you, too.

When he "rises again" in the sequel, I was impressed how the murders were even more elaborate and grisly -- scorpions, eagles and being squished alive. Will he find the river of life and will Biederbeck survive after living many many years beyond one lifetime? Check it out and see.

Kinda interesting how the films were set in the 1920s but "Over the Rainbow" was not written as a song until the 1930s. oops.

The DVD has NO special features.
