Very interesting video on the final collapse of the Nazis

Both the Prelude and the Battle videos of this series is very interesting. The Wehrmacht, deprived of the armour they needed for any serious resistance against the Red Army lined up along the Vistula river in Eastern Poland precariously short of armour and artillery. The shortage was due to Hitler's gamble in the west resulting in the "Battle of the Bulge". This gave Guderian, the German commander little chance against the six tank armies and 7 guards armies of the formidable red army poised to drive through Poland towards the Oder River.

There are some flaws in this video. Ferdinand Schoerner is listed as the Commander of the German forces when in reality Heinz Guderian was the commander for the bulk of the conflict represented by this video. Guderian, faced with the impossible task of putting together an armoured reserve to fight back any Russian forces that broke through the German Vistula forces, was relieved at the last minute by Hitler when Soviet forces were lining up along the Oder. This is an omission that seriously weakens this video. Also, the failure of Hitler to order the still formidable Sixth SS Panzer army to the Oder front was notable but underplayed in this video.

Even with it's flaws, there is alot of good information in this video. The prelude breaks down some of the interesting armaments that both sides used in the latter stages of the conflict. One looks with gratefulness that Hitler did not deploy his formidable "King Tiger" tanks in Berlin itself. The losses that the Red Army would have suffered would have been twice as great. Thank you Hitler for sending them to Hungary, well away from the climax that caused you to poison your worthless ass into oblivion. A doomed army and Reich, atleast Hitler had the good sense to send his most formidable troops away from himself, leaving his defense to foreign SS and a ready to surrender group of home guard. Even so, the Russians suffered huge losses in Berlin. Most people know little about the struggle for Berlin. Atleast TimeLife produced something to acknowledge the courage and determination fo the Red Army soldiers who brought down Hitler's Wehrmacht and Hitler himelf.
