Ahh, baby has finally fallen asleep. Time to do the dishes/eat dinner/go to sleep?but wait! Is that the baby waking up? Is she coughing? Is she breathing?

Every new parent (and one or two veteran ones, too) knows this scenario. It?s lovely when your baby sleeps, but it sure would be nice to keep an eye on her, too. But there aren?t too many parents around who have the luxury of sitting quietly in baby?s bedroom, watching her sleep. This is why baby monitors were invented. And traditional audio monitors are a terrific boon to modern parents. But the Day and Night Handheld Color Video Monitor?now here is technology at its finest!

Turn On, Tune In, and Stay Out of Baby?s Room
With this slick little monitor, not only can you hear your little angel?s every breath and snuffle and rustle, but you can see her every move, too! From anywhere in the house, no less! Sound lights visually show baby?s level of activity, while nighttime LED lights on the camera make the baby fully visible day and night. Simply push one button on the parent unit to take a peek, then push the same button when you?re reassured enough to rely on the sound lights for a while. With a 350-foot range, you can carry the monitor receiver everywhere you go, even into the yard. And, most importantly, you won?t be tempted to poke your head in through that creaky bedroom door you keep meaning to fix just for a quick look at your little tot?which inevitably results in her waking and needing to go through the whole bedtime rigmarole again.

Techy Details
The 1.8-inch screen is plenty big enough to see what you need to see: your little darling?s slumbering form in full color (during daylight hours) or black-and-white (the automatic nighttime view). The parent unit includes 900 MHz technology for superior clarity of sound. If static occurs, switch channels on the two-channel selection to minimize interference. Two power options?rechargeable battery or A/C?provide parents with the freedom to roam or stay put. The rechargeable battery lasts up to 10 hours, making it a good choice for travel. The parent unit also includes an audio/video output jack and is headphone-ready (headphones not included). Brightness control and volume control features allow parents to tone it down or turn it up when necessary. Screen automatically "times out" to save batteries. "Power on" indicator lets parents know, well, when the unit?s on! Baby?s unit includes A/C-powered camera, nighttime LED lights for viewing baby in a darkened room, self-filtering directional microphone, two-channel selection to minimize interference, and "power on" indicator.

And You Put It??
Baby?s unit provides tabletop or wall-mounted options. A belt clip and stand on the parent unit allows complete portability, while an anchor and security clips (6 included) enables parent to mount the receiver on the wall. --Emilie Coulter

One of my MUST HAVE baby items

I love this camera. I have not had any problems with it due to interference from phones or internet. The range is good --I can go outside or downstairs and it still works. At night, the image is a bit dark-but still good enough to see whether or not the baby is sleeping or not.

I don't have any complaints, and this product made the transition of my daughter into her own room much easier on me!

Also, I was able to get this at a great price on Amazon. The price fluctuated quite a bit, so by checking frequently I got a great deal!!

5 month and I don't know how I could rest without it

All too often I hear parents criticize video monitors as a device that creates over-paranoid parents. I think it's the exact opposite after 5 months of use. The video allows you to virtually "poke your head in the room" without having to move your feet. The comfort of knowing the baby is just stirring versus the baby's foot hanging out of the crib is worth it alone. This product has a very capable battery. The microphone is super sensitive where it picks up the faintest of breathing from our child. The camera is clear in day or night and the swivel makes it fit in any corner.

Great for checking on baby without entering the room and as a nightlight for those late-night feedings!

We love this monitor! You could live with a simple sound monitor, but my husband and I love gadgets so we both agreed to get this despite the cost. Our daughter is now 3 months. It has the obvious benefits of being able to see her when sleeping and to check in on her when we hear noises but don't want to go into the room if it is not necessary. An added bonus is to use the monitor as a nightlight/flashlight when I go to her room for those late night feedings. We recently moved and this has proved to be invaluable to help me navigate around boxes in the hall! Battery life is great. I plug it in at night and use it all day around the house. The one down side is that I cannot talk on our wireless house phone in our daughters room without turning off the base because the frequencies interfere with each other.
I have also found the video monitor to be valuable when babysitting older children who can get out of their crib/bed. It lets me watch them and know when I need to go into the room to put them back in bed :) When we no longer need it for our children, I will probably use it to watch the dog at night!

Great Monitor

This is a nice monitor. It is really nice being able to see your little one instead of relying strictly on noise. Being able to see will prevent you from going into baby's room when not necessary. I also like the idea of adding another camera to monitor a second room which I plan to do for my 4 year old. The time out feature is really nice too and a must have for the night time monitoring. Easy to use, easy to set up and works great. The only negative I have so far is the picture is not the best but the baby's room is dark, even in the day. Even with that, the picture is enough to see when he is awake and needs me.

Does the job

Have realistic expectations when buying this video monitor and you'll be happy with your investment. The picture quality is good (especially in dimly lit rooms), the video camera head is very light weight and tilts in four directions (ours hangs on the wall just above the crib suspended on a thumb tack!), and the battery so far has been really good (I've forgotten to plug it in a few nights and it's still juiced up). So, realistic expectations...

1) Don't expect to see the same vivid imagery of your baby that they promote in their packaging. Most likely you'll be setting up the monitor a safe distance from your baby's head/body so you'll get a more complete picture of your baby's body- not the close-up mug shots featured in the ads. The colors will not be as vibrant either, unless your little one has an affinity for sleeping in a very brightly lit room.

2) Do expect some feedback on your receiver. There are six degrees of 'noise' (green to red) to alert you of sounds in the room. I've become accustomed to only paying attention when I see it register 4+ repeatedly and with some length (feedback registers short bursts of 4+ and is common for my house). The feedback is audible so unfortunately I have to turn the sound down very very low at night (just enough to hear a cry), or I am awakened by the hisses all night.

3) You can't control how long the video display stays on when the received is not plugged into the wall, so if you're downstairs and want to see your baby constantly you will need it to be plugged in. Otherwise it will go to sound-only after about 3 minutes.

I would prefer that it came with two video monitors, because sometimes baby falls asleep in another 'regular' nap spot that you'd like to watch. Also it would be great if it were possible to move the video head remotely (so that when baby squirms out of view you can find her) but I don't expect to see that on a household product such as this. Overall I've been really happy with this tool, aside from the feedback annoyances, which channel switching doesn't seem to fix. (We do have a wireless router and cordless phones throughout the house)
