More than a cookbook
I have been reading and re-reading this book since I stumbled across it 40 years ago. The humorous style is reminiscent of Robert Benchley or Mary Laswell, with the added benefit of some truly outstanding
recipes
. I have attempted, with mixed results, the author's Bean Soup and his hangover remedies, but my lifelong ambition is to make and serve his recipe for Thompson's Turkey. Merely reading the list of required ingredients will cause a weak person to quail and the hours of labor described may cause the cook to turn to strong drink (the author's recommendation.) If you can find this gem, give it a quick look over; I think you'll be sold.
