Another big helping of Pogo
The appetizer in this lovely presentation is classic
Pogo
id doggerel, titled "A Rune upon a Lunar Tune Aroon." It begins:
The Moon is a Madness,
A Madness of mine.
I made her of mustard
And mulberry wine.
and continues in that vein. If that taste doesn't suit you, chances are that the rest won't either. Hey, it's your loss.
The next course, "A Sorry Soiree," soon has Albert the Alligator chomping his cigar in an undersized nightie, Owl finding Churchy under Pogo's bed. As with any good first course, it satisfies without sating. We clear our literary palate with a brief taste of silliness (poetry collected under the title "A Cipher of Zephyrs").
"Wash up Doc" follows, in which an oversized mortar is mistaken for a washing machine. (Well, it looks good on paper.) And so they follow, the larger pieces of graphic narrative separated by charmingly inane poems. The main course, of course, is "Cinderola and the Fore Bears." If you have a child to whom you read nursery rhymes, you may never do it with a straight face again.
