Emmy-winner Patricia Heaton (Everybody Loves Raymond) and Emmy-nominee Meredith Baxter (Family Ties) star in this powerful family drama as Wanda and Sarah, estranged sisters at odds over what to do with a pecan grove they?ve inherited in the wake of their mother?s death. Wanda wants to keep the land in the family. Sarah, hiding a devastating secret, wants desperately to sell. They are startled to discover an elderly woman, Lilly Cooper (Emmy-nominee Della Reece, Touched by an Angel) living on the property, and claiming it as her own. Against her mother?s wishes, Sarah?s rebellious teenage daughter, Gina (Anna Chlumsky, My Girl), befriends the delusional Lilly, who mistakes Gina for a figure from her past. Gina is touched by Lilly?s heartbreaking life story, and becomes determined to find her long-lost son.

Good film

I really like Della reese, she gives a film heart. this one is good

A nice family movie...

Two sisters learn to love and understand each other after the death of one of their parents. A good family movie with nothing to bleep out. The ride is not smooth but it does have a good ending for everyone involved!

Good for the whole family

This movie falls under the category of what most people call a 'chick flick', but if you like family-oriented movies, then you'll enjoy this one whether you are a man or a woman. This is a wonderfully-done tale of reconciliation and forgiveness within two different families. Yes, the ending is overly predictable, but that's okay because getting there is so rich and rewarding.

The only thing that I didn't like about the movie was the horribly fake Southern accents that Meredith Baxter and Patricia Heaton used. It's too bad that most people probably think of these two actresses as their characters Elise Keaton and Deborah Barone - those phony accents will likely make you cringe at first if you think of these two characters they played. I got past this little flaw quickly though, and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. An added plus is the fact that it has zero sex or profanity (in spite of the antagonism between some of the characters - see, Hollywood, it can be done!!).

ADDENDUM: If you enjoy movies with plotlines such as this one, then you may also want to take a look at "A Family Thing" and "Waterproof"; these two movies are, in my opinion, even better than "Miracle in the Woods" (although "A Family Thing" is one of those unfortunate examples of a well-done movie that is marred by needless profanity; "Waterproof," made by a Christian film company, is a safer choice for family viewing).

Wonderful but emotionally over the top

This is a movie for sons who lost their mothers, sons who miss their mothers, mothers who miss their sons or lost a son, or anyone who loves having his/her guts ripped out. It's a extraordinarily well-acted and directed story about a young black mother whose son was taken from her when small. Without giving away the ending, it will leave mothers and lost children sobbing. More than a movie, it's an experience. The theme is the amazing love of mothers for their children. Marvelously done. I gave it four stars rather than five only because it's such an extreme tear-jerker.
