Starsky & Hutch, starring Pail Michael Glaser and David Soul, is the epitome of the hip, 70s buddy cop show. Season Three reacted to criticism about the hit series boundary-pushing violence by pumping up the serious drama. The 1977-1978 season tackled socially relevant themes like child abuse, homosexuality and mental illness mixing "issues" with tire-squealing car chases, gunplay and colorful recurring characters like jive-talking Huggy Bear (Antonio Fargas) and quick-tempered Captain Dobey (Bernie Hamilton). A dazzling array of guest stars including Danny DeVito, Melanie Griffith, Suzanne Somers, Joan Collins and Philip Michael Thomas (TV?s "Miami Vice") shared screen time with the two handsome cops, who directed some Season Three episodes. The show?s outrageous style and tongue-in-cheek humor, now played alongside more serious story lines, made STARSKY & HUTCH one of the most popular and innovative cop shows ever.

Old friends revisited, the real Starsky and Hutch

Having been reacquainted with Starsky and Hutch only last year I was delighted to order Season 3. This season is focused alot on Hutch and the things he went through! The friendship bond is never so apparant as in the episode "The Plague" Thanks Amazon.com too cause you are the only place to order from that finds my house!

Excellent closed captions!

The captions are "clean," complete, and contain all of the background information. Rather than just naming the background song, like some do, or ignored, like others, a song here is very briefly described (jazzy, upbeat, disco, etc.), the technique that I prefer. Very, very nice job!!!

As for the videos themselves, I thought they seemed unusually dark in quality, even when compared to shows that are even older, but they were a blast from the past nonetheless.

it was so great! so glad to got those dvd . thank you so much . good seller smile .

Brings back my past

I thought that it was very good. I watched this show when I was a teen, And it was one of the best shows on back then. I was happy to see that I could buy the Complete seasons of the show. I can watch it over again. I bought the second season and I just bought the first season so I am waiting for that to come in yet. For anyone how wants to buy these they are very good and some funny parts also. It is very enjoyable. Paul and David are very good as cops in this show. They get a good rating from me.

A few of the best...many clunkers however

"Fatal Charm" and "Class in Crime" are two episodes that would not only hold up as assets in their first 2 (and best) seasons, but in any action/thriller series. "Fatal Charm" was Glenn Close and Michael Douglas 10 years earlier and is one of the top 5 episodes of the 4 seasons in my opinion. "Class in Crime" was very clever and suspenseful. As a college grad who remembers having a nutjob in Philosophy 101 many years ago, the professor in this episode is pretty typical. It's the only class I took pass/fail in my 4 years because I realized the professor 2 weeks into this required course was such a set in his ways nut at University at Buffalo in his "philosophies" that I had to "play the game" just to get a B-. It's the one episode of this disappointing 3rd season that I can watch for the next 20 years and still enjoy because of how skewed philosophy professors are through past experience. The "Playboy Island" episode was atrocious and should never of been the opening installment for a season. It was unintentional comic stupidity. I'm all for social conscience, but this show was an action/Police show that got away from its popular MO for seasons 1-2. If you didn't know the show, that theme song for season 3 is so primitive and comically bad you'd think it was maybe used as the 1975 pilot before being scrapped. Sounded like the 1960's Mission Impossible score on crack. Anyhow, I have season 3 but it's collected dust other than the 2 mentioned episodes I watch again for nostalgia and entertainment.Season 4 tried to recapture the old MO but you could tell Glasier and Soul sort of went through the motions after the irreparable damage season 3 did going against what made it a hit.I give it 4 stars only because of my love for the show. Worst of the 4 seasons overall.
