Ed O?Neill of MARRIED WITH CHILDREN stars as
Dutch
Dooley, a working-class good guy who?s the new boyfriend of a wealthy big shot?s ex-wife. But when the woman?s spoiled son (Ethan Randall of CAN?T HARDLY WAIT and SWEET HOME ALABAMA in one of his first film roles) refuses to come home from his Southern prep school for Thanksgiving, Dutch volunteers to pick the bratty boy up for a road trip back to Chicago that quickly goes hilariously wrong. From fireworks fiascos to hitchhiking with hookers, can a man who?s really just a grown-up kid find a way to bring out the child in a little jerk? Christopher McDonald (HAPPY GILMORE), E.G. Daily (VALLEY GIRL) and JoBeth Williams (THE BIG CHILL) co-star in this comedy hit written and produced by John Hughes (HOME ALONE, NATIONAL LAMPOON'S CHRISTMAS VACATION) and directed by Peter Faiman (CROCODILE DUNDEE) about two strangers about to become best friends?with the scars to prove it!

Underrated movie - one for the collection
There are so few 'Thanksgiving movies' available. This is one that was overlooked in the theaters. The critics bad mouthed it. It did not fair well at the box office overall. The problem is - all the bad press wasn't deserved.
The movie is funny. Ed O-Neill is not Al Bundy in this movie. He is still something of a bumbler, but he is definitely a different character overall. Ethan Randall, in one of his earliest appearances, is convincing as the rich brat that is ticked off at the world. Put the two of them together - you get '
Dutch
'.
As with most John Hughes movies of the era, it has a touchy ending, but it plays in well with the story. For the low price of the movie, you can't go wrong. You will end up with a great Thanksgiving themed movie that deserves to be in your holiday (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas) movie collection.

I love this movie! A young boy living at a Prep School does not want to go home to his Mother for Thanksgiving, so
Dutch
..the Mother's boyfriend goes to get the kid. The laughs are frequent as the two try to get along and make it home for Thanksgiving.
Only below The Godfather.
When it comes to comedies, John Hughes and Ed O'Neil created a formidable one here. This is they type of movie I find myself watching over and over again and enjoying it more each time I watch it.
If you are looking for a 3-hour drama, look elsewhere. This film is cut from the same mold of great films such as Uncle Buck, Home Alone & Planes, Traines & Automobiles. It's no coincidence that John Hughes is at the helm of all of them.
Ed O'Neil was perfect for the role, and if you've seen him in any comedies, you know what to expect. He's great.
