From the supplier: Subchapter S corporations that end their S status before the end of their fiscal year have that year divided into two short years and may choose between two ways to account for allocated income, losses, deductions or credits. Actual transaction records can be used to allocate income to the period in which it occurred. The pro rata method can also be used unless 50% or more of the stock was transferred that year. The transaction accounting method must be agreed to by all the stockholders from the S short year and those holding stock on the first day of the C short year.
