under priced awesome gun

This was my first n-strike gun. it is da bomb. i used it on my friend first who had a night finder. he lost badly. the stock stores 8 extra shots. i was very accurate and fast. but the range was only 25 ft so i got taggers then they went 30-40 feet. The next thing i got was a dart tag set with 80 shot so i had 110 shots. two of my friends faced me with them and lost. A HUGE capcity made my twitch. i say they should sell it for 35$ bit thats i think.

A Dad's Thoughts on the REV-8

My son is 4-1/2 and has very good saving habits and is very responsible and thoughtful when picking toys. When he wanted a toy gun that went a bit beyond the guns he was building out of Lego's or my old Lazer Tag guns, he bee-lined for the Nerf guns.

Now, I've got a rather unusual son for his age. He checked out all the options carefully at a local store in making his choice. He passed over both the simple cock-and-shoots as well as the biggest-and-baddest. When I asked why, he said this gun was just right because a) it held 8 shots and b) it was small enough for him to use easily. He passed over the copy-cat guns because he didn't think they were made as well and would break. He likes the glow-in-the-dark feature, but that really wasn't a major factor in his selection. Not bad thinking, for 4-1/2.

We got it home and out and he didn't even wait to install the batteries before he had it loaded and firing. He fires it rifle-style two-handed from the shoulder and though he has to drop it from firing position to cock, he's able to cycle the rounds well enough bolt-action style. He tried the darts both with and without the glow-in-the dark stickers and even though they took a bit off the range, he decided he liked the effect with them on.

With regard to some of the comments on range, accuracy and easy of use, I've got to say, that none of the complaints have been seen with my son. He's spent much of the last three days emptying the chamber into me from hiding spots typically 12-15 feet away, nailing me consistently. No has he had problems using the bolt action with his 4-1/2 year old muscles. It's a bit tight for him, but within his strength for extended play. He's popping off shots in under 10 seconds repeatedly with good accuracy. As far as maximum range, I was getting shots across our great room, dining room and sticking to the fridge in the kitchen - easily 25+ feet with enough "bang" to get in trouble from my wife who was cooking dinner and narrowly missed. ;-) Obviously, on the longer range shots you will have to take the flight arc into account - especially if you have the extra weight of the stickers on the dart. However, even my 4-year old manage to figure that out on his own. Unfortunately. For me.

I think a reality check needs to be made in evaluating the REV-8. It is a child's toy not a competition tag piece. I'm certain that there are other Nerf guns that have both greater range and accuracy. That's why Nerf makes two lines of guns: for play and for tag. If you want a toy to have fun with and perhaps a Nerf war, it's good. If you're more competition focused you would be better looking at the Nerf tag line.

Cool idea, darts need reconfigured

One thing you HAVE to know about this toy is that the darts do NOT glow in the dark by themselves. I really couldn't believe it when we had to actually put paper on the darts to make them glow. Thought that was exceptionally cheesy for Nerf. Not used to that from them. Anyway, the gun just fires in constant repetition, soars as high as the 24-foot ceiling and beyond, and those darts really stick once they've been dispelled by the gun. It's a ton of fun, no doubt there, but if you're playing in the dark, the light inside gives away your position. Other than that, highly recommend!

Pretty Nice

The point of the light feature is not cool. If you're in a night war, it gives away your position. Buy the Maverick instead, It's less bulky and is faster to prime. The only thing that separates this from a Maverick is that it's INSANELY comfortable. The Maverick's a better buy for a compact pistol, but if you're defending a fort in Nerf war, this is way better. It's comfortability makes it a great assault weapon, but only when your patrolling a certain area. A Maverick won't do for patrol. You need a strong, fast, and comfortable blaster. A very trusty guard weapon, and it doesn't jam when you're using the RIGHT darts. It also can be easily modded to shoot stefans. Buy if you have tons of patience, if not, buy the Maverick.Hasbro Nerf N-Strike Maverick

A so-so addition to the Nerf arsenal

The glow in the dark darts, though novel, don't fire too well. The gun is somewhat awkward and difficult to cock. A decent gun, but not nearly as good as many of the others.
