Excellent debut album
RBD is a sextet that got its start in the Mexican novela titled "
Rebelde
(Rebels)". The group played the roles of wealthy students in a private school trying to start a band. They were so popular among fans of the TV show that producer Pedro Damian gathered them into a real band outside the show, titling them "RBD" to distinguish them from the show. The result was international success.
This is their debut album. A lot of the music was used in the show and should not be unfamiliar to the fans. Although it is short (only 11 tracks), it packs hit after hit and should please everyone, even if you have not seen the show.
The title itself is misleading - Although their character personas are rebelious, the music itself is harmless teen bubble-gum pop, much along the lines of OV7.
01. Rebelde - 4/5 - The theme song to the novela, also used within the show. A bit slow like a ballad but picks up to a power-pop style while the group belts about how they are rebels.
02. Solo Quedate en Silencio - 4/5 - A song frequently used in the TV show as well, sort of the romantic theme song for Mia/Miguel and Diego/Roberta. You might also say it's sort of the show's 2nd theme song. Rather slow, like the Backstreet Boys type of music. This is definately a fan favorite and one newcomers will enjoy.
03. Otra Dia que Va - 4/5 - A power-pop song sung mostly by Anahi and Dulce Maria. The vocals here leave a lot to be desired, but the song is still enjoyable.
04. Un Poco de tu Amor - 3/5 - Released as a single only in Mexico, this is not one of my favorites. I'll give it a listen once in a while.
05. Ensename - 4/5 - Cute, bubbly, very teenager-ish. It has a sort of rhythm like Ace of Base meets Backstreet boys, but this one works out well. Sometimes, it can be a bit repetitive.
06. Futuro Ex-novia 2/5 - Upbeat, power-pop with some strange yet distracting synth-beats. This song features the boys, but it's rather uninteresting and dull. I don't listen to this one much, once in a blue moon.
07. Tenerte y Quererte 3/5 - Another upbeat power-pop song. This one reminds me of "Un Poco de tu Amor" but I tolerate this one a lot more than the other.
08. Cuando el Amor se acaba - 2/5 - Another song that sounds sort of like "Tenerte y Quererte," yet this one I don't like as much.
09. Santa No Soy 4/5 - This is definately a rebel song. The lyrics are fun, rebellious, the beat is great and the girls really outdo themselves in this song. Definately one of my favorites.
10. Fuego 5/5 - Upbeat power-pop dance song mainly sung by Dulce Maria (Roberta) and used in the show numerous times (although the show version is a bit better). This is my favorite track off the album. It's a shame it's not a single release since it's so great. If possible, do watch the video on youtube where Roberta dances this- makes the song so much more fun.
11. salvame 1/5 - Probably the group's most popular ballad. I don't like ballads and I don't like this one either.
For a debut album, Rebelde certainly comes off as powerful, full of teen bubblegum pop and hits that will keep the young ones entertained. True, RBD is marketed, manufactured and without as much talent as other groups, but that didn't stop them from gaining the success they have now. Go ahead and listen, even if you've never watched the show. It's innocent, fresh and fun, much unlike most of the rap/hip-hop that's out there.

A Very Good Debut
RBD has become a huge phenomenon over the past 2 years. They are a Latin pop group sensation consisting of 6 members, (3 girls & 3 guys) they are Anahi, Dulce Maria, Maite Perroni, Alfonso "Poncho" Herrera, Christopher Uckermann ,and Cristian Chavez. This group is based out of the Mexican Soap Opera "
Rebelde
". When this Tele-Novela came out I refused to give it a chance, calling it lame, and calling RBD a waste of Radio air play. Even though I had never really heard any of their songs, only a little bit of their 1st single, and then dismissing it, but I quickly took all my harsh judgments and shoved them down my throat, as one day I decided to give the show a chance, and found that I actually liked it, and as I got more into "Rebelde", I decided to download some of the songs of this debut album, since they would play most of these songs in the novela as background music. I was surprised to find most of RBD's music was actually quite catchy, with a fun pop/rock sound to it. RBD is just good standard pop, it's not like todays horrid pop though, it sounds just like what pop used to be a few years back, and I'm so glad they brought it back! The only thing that kind of disappointed me was that Maite didn't have enough solos it was mostly Anahi or Dulce. There is "Cuando El Amor Se Acaba" which is sang by Maite, but it's not that popular like the other songs. In my opinion I think Maite has the best voice in the group, and her song should've gotten a little more recognition. Other than that I have no complaints this is an excellent debut. 2 thumbs up! :)
