Excellent Book - Excellent Guidance!

Mr. Davis brings alive the vision of becoming more than you thought you could be through a practical and common sense approach. His book is filled with wise commentary and tools that even non-military personnel can use in their everyday life to accomplish tasks and goals from the mundane to the extraordinary. I recommend this book to anyone seeking guidance from an influential leader. I can't wait for his next book!

Simple, direct, and powerful

This book was written by a Command Sergeant Major, the highest possible enlisted rank. Command Sergeant Majors are often found in the company, and on the staff, of colonels and generals, and their job is to advise the unit commander and monitor the care and well-being of all the enlisted soldiers in their command. This is a huge task and responsibility, and it falls on the CSM to make sure that everything gets done.
CSM Davis' book is a straightforward guide to getting things done, even when you are not in charge. It covers setting goals and developing plans to achieve them, as well as ways to make sure you are doing what needs to be done, when things are running smoothly (heading off problems before things stop running smoothly). It also details ways to work with others, whether they are easy or difficult to work with. There are several chapters that are specific to the military, but it is easy to read and understand CSM Davis' emphasis on maintaining core values and essential skills in your staff.
I referred back to this book often, when I was a manager in the corporate world, and I often would skim certain sections, when doing preliminary planning for large projects.
Short chapters and easy-to-understand writing make for a concise, useful guide for leaders.
