Though betrayed by his brothers as a boy, Joseph remains faithful to God. He interprets dreams and earns even the Pharaohs respect. The story opens with Pharaohs dream: Seven healthy cows devoured by seven sickly cows and seven beautiful ears of corn stifled by seven diseased ears. Pharaohs butler knows a Hebrew prisoner, Joseph, who can interpret dreams. The butler then tells of Josephs early life. Pharaoh sends for Joseph, who openly declares that only God can give the power to understand dreams. Joseph tells Pharaoh that seven years of plenty will be followed by seven years of famine in Egypt. Pharaoh realizes this means doom for his kingdom. Joseph explains to Pharaoh that with God all things are possible. He outlines a plan to store grain for the future. Pharaoh is impressed with Josephs wise counsel and places him in charge of all preparations for the famine. Joseph calls on the people of Egypt to put their faith in God and they will survive the times to come.
