highly recommended

The dust collection is probably our favorite feature; sanding like this makes a wicked mess, but just hook up your shop vacuum to the dust port, and nearly all the sawdust you make will get sucked away. Granted, it does make a strange sound as the spindle oscillates when you've got the vac running, but some ear protection isn't a bad idea anyway when your vac is on.

The oscillation really does a great job of removing stock when you're using a coarse grit, and with finer grit, you get a nice smooth finish, especially on scroll-sawn work.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Cheap and good.

For light use, it is a great deal. It does the job and has all the basic elements of a good spindle sander. You can install an external rheostat to regulate speed. I recommended it to several friends who bought it, and they all liked it.


Wonderful tool for the money!

I purchased this in March 2007 and I have been very happy with its performance. It is relatively quiet, sands efficiently, and has a good dust collection system. Recommend highly!


does the job

No problems with this machine. I wish I had bought one years ago. Sure makes my woodworking easier. On the down side. The collar around the spindle hole, the one that is permanent, is uneven and not flat. When moving a piece of wood across the spindle, the collar stops the wood since it is higher than the other removable collar. You have to be careful not to burn a dent into your wood piece since the unlevel collar stops it and the spindle gets extra time on that spot before you can lift and proceed. It can be leveled, but it takes a while of trial and error.

Strong, easy to change spindles, ample workspace. Other than the inaccurate collar, I have no problem in recommending this machine. It's a good hobby machine at a good price.

UPDATE: I couldn't get the collar perfectly level with shims, so I removed the shims and used medium sandpaper on a block to sand the uneven sides of the collar. It didn't take but a minute. Now it's level and mates with the table perfectly. I still recommend this machine in that it does what it's made to do once it's tweaked and leveled. It's invaluable to a small woodworking shop.

Very nice Sander

I bought this Wilton (99179)Oscillating Spindle Sander on 09/28/08 and its been a great sander so far. The only issue I have with it, is when I pulled it out of the box the table top was peeling up a little bit. Taken care of with some glue though. I used it for a constant 1 1/2 hours the other day without shutting it off. Works Great, Didn't miss a beat!
