Jody never asked to become a vampire. But when she wakes up under an alley Dumpster with a badly burned arm, an aching neck, superhuman strength, and a distinctly Nosferatuan thirst, she realizes the decision has been made for her.

Making the transition from the nine-to-five grind to an eternity of nocturnal prowlings is going to take some doing, however, and that's where C. Thomas Flood fits in. A would-be Kerouac from Incontinence, Indiana, Tommy (to his friends) is biding his time night-clerking and frozen-turkey bowling in a San Francisco Safeway. But all that changes when a beautiful undead redhead walks through the door ... and proceeds to rock Tommy's life -- and afterlife -- in ways he never imagined possible.

Love Bites.

Christopher Moore wanted to write horror books; he dreamed of being the next Stephen King. Unfortunately for him but fortunately for us, people laughed when they read what he wrote. Thus was born a humorist of the caliber of Dave Barry or Christopher Buckley and some have gone so far as to say he is the next Kurt Vonnegut. Now that we know a bit about our Author, what about the book?
Bloodsucking Fiends is a glorious romp through the night. We have an office worker, Jodi, who has a 9-to-5 dead-end office job in San Francisco, and wakes up one morning under a dumpster and the sun burns her and she has super human strength. She has never watched vampire movies or read the books, so she doesn't know what to do or how to do it. She is on the hunt for the man/creature who turned her.
This is where C. Thomas Flood comes in, a beatnik author from Indiana, who works midnights at the Safeway. He falls in love with Jodi immediately, and realizes that there is something strange about his love.
Follow the humorous journey through the night, the underworld, the streets and alleys of San Francisco as Thomas tries to find a way to be with the woman he loves even if she is undead. And Jodi tries to find out what being undead is all about. Can this love survive? And if you've enjoyed this one, check out his other writings: Island of the Sequined Love Nun, or The Lusty Lizard of Melancholy Cove.

My turtles are not on dlugs!

I first read (and purchased) this book soon after its release and loved it. I had read Coyote Blue and thus thought I knew what to expect from Mr. Moore. This book exceeded my expectations. The situations are riotous, the plotting quick and tight, and the one-liners that can be borrowed from this book are without number. From the proper use of Reddi-Whip ("Can up!") to the "Ski Boat" to the Emperor's "Safety first!" this book has become an integral part of my personal mythos. And although I can't say I have ever "skidded the buzzard," the ski boat works just great.

An ode to the city I love

Chancing on the first Christopher Moore book (Practical Demonkeeping) in a news stand on a Saturday long ago was one of the happier events in my literary life. This book was just a kick in the pants as it's set in the big City next door, San Francisco. I'll never look at the City the same way - Chinatown, the Marina , and other landmarks are celebrated in ways that make them even more memorable.

Mr Moore has an engaging turn of phrase - the characters internal monologues kind of get lodged in your head and affect the way you think. And you will never think of being a vampire as a goth, lace, wrapped in black sort of experience. It's a dodge the daylight, what do I eat, how do I deal with this kind of joyride.

my favorite Moore book

My first Christopher Moore book, and my favorite still. Will make you LOL! After this read Fluke and Lamb, they are fantastic too. You Suck was good, I just finished The lust lizard of melancholy cove, it was not Mr. Moore's best work, I'd avoid that one. Next on the list Practical Demon keeping and I'm hoping for another winner!
