Brittany Murphy (don't Say a Word) and Dakota Fanning (I Am Sam) shine brighter than all the lights of Manhattan in this delightful New York fairy tale. Co-starring Marley Shelton (Never Been Kissed), Donald Faison ("Scrubs") and Heather Locklear ("Spin City"),
Uptown
Girls
will make you laugh, cry and laugh again! Molly (Murphy) is a partying rock 'n' roll princess whose money just ran out. Ray (Fanning) is a fussy nine-year-old girl whose last nanny just ran out. Only Ray's way-too-busy mom (Locklear) could think that hiring Molly would be the perfect setup for both girls. But as this unlikely pair faces everything from control issues (Ray's, of course) to temper tantrums (Molly's, of course), they discover that sometimes your best friend can come from the place you least expect!

I loved this movie!
Molly Gun is a spoiled rich girl who likes to have fun and spend her money. Ray is a rich eight-year-old girl whose mother neglects her. When Molly loses her money, she goes to work as Ray's nanny. They don't get along at first, but they both soon become good friends. Ray acts way too mature for her age, while Molly is a little immature for her. Molly teaches Ray to act like a child, while Ray gives Molly a lesson in what it takes to be a grown-up. Heather Locklear plays Ray's mother, a selfish horrible witch who doesn't care or understand her daughter. She gives her gifts so she doesn't have to spend time with her. When Ray really needs someone to help her, she instead turns to Molly. It's a funny, cute movie and some parts of it even made me cry like where Ray and Molly are spinning in the teacups and then Ray starts to cry and she runs into Molly's arms. Great movie with a great message.

Girls
Metro Golden Mayer Trade Mark, 2003, 92 minutes, price varies Story by: Allison Jacobs
One night, Molly gets dressed up for her twenty-second birthday party. A bunch of people were there, except for Molly's parents, for they died when she was a little girl. Molly used to be rich, but was now poor, so then one morning she came to find that she had been kicked out of her apartment due to not fully paying her bills. For money, she gets a job as a nanny, and is now responsible for a nine year old brat, Ray. Molly is now living with Ing, her mature best friend. However, she is forced out of the house when they get into a fight. So, Molly moves in with another best friend, a dark skin man named Huey, (he is a choreographer). Finally deciding that she cannot depend on others for a living, Molly sells a guitar collection, the only memory of her parents, (her father was a famous singer), and then buys a tiny apartment with the money.
Molly continues to deal with Ray, who is mature and neat but can still be a disrespectful brat. However, through many miserable days, they help each other through times of sadness, sickness, and even happiness. A hard time is when Ray's dad dies. Ray then becomes mad at Molly because Molly promised Ray that her dad would come out of his coma and not die if Ray talked to him and loved him. So, when Ray's dad died the next day, Ray's mom announces, "Molly, we have decided to let you go," Molly was sad, she had lost her new best friend! However, she got her back by coming to Ray's ballet recital. In the end, Molly finds many new friends to depend on in times of trouble, and even though she and Molly are thirteen years apart, they will be like sisters, together forever.
My opinion of this movie is that it is "two thumbs up!" There are many reasons to prove this! One is because I can always somehow feel or relate to the main characters. Also, this movie has a great atmosphere, and the writer of this movie definitely kept in mind the famous saying of "no tears for the writer, no tears for the reader", or in this case, watcher! Lastly, a reason why I like the movie "Uptown Girls" is because it has a unique plot, setting, and characters.
"Uptown Girls" is a great movie for movie nights! I recommend it to mature ten year olds, (no younger than ten because I first watched this movie when I was ten and there were a few parts that were inappropriate), up to any age! Even adults will love this movie that is both mature and immature! I hope that you and some friends can watch this movie and enjoy it, just like I did!

Adorable movie
I have seen about half this movie and was very curious to see the rest of it and found it on sale. So I bought it. The rest of the movie was just as good. I highly recommend it.
Uptown Girls!
Touching, funny, and true to life, this movie fallows the characters Molly and Ray. Molly is a spoiled rich girl, spawn of her dead rock star father. When her inheritance money is gone, she has to turn to work, which she has just discovered. She starts her first job, being the nanny to a little rich girl named "Ray", who is more serious then Molly.
"Act your age, not your shoe size," says little Ray, who is, of course, more mature compared to immature and undependable Molly.
But, the
girls
begin to grow on eachother and depend on one another, discovering what it is like to have someone that you depend on greatly and love like a sister.
