Start with the Rock House Method...

I have been a beginner guitarist for a long time now and of all the products that I have tried, Rock House Method's: Learn Rock Guitar - Beginner Program, has been the best. John McCarthy makes the learning process easy and fun. His no nonsense and straight forwardness, makes you want to continue the learning process. A great starting point...

Almost as motivational as educational

While using other products to learn notation (though now I know these guys have that capability also), I picked up the combo pack for the "ear" training for my rythm. Come to find out, working thru the exercises are not only teaching me my rythm, but really giving my fingers a workout, and are great for motivational use, too. They move you into doing some pretty snappy riffs pretty quick, and it's alot more fun than "Yankee Doodle". Can't wait to progress into the more advanced DVDs. And the online support site is great for your questions, which you can't ask a book.

Not a bad DVD

I'm about 4 weeks into owning my first electric guitar. I have 30 years experience watching my friends play but never had the discipline to actually start to learn. This video is helping me to structure my first weeks with the guitar. It has a good variety of topics and leads you to simple chord and riff playing relatively quickly. It also lightly touches on theory so that there is some structure to the progression of topics. Note the booklet is decent though it didn't have some of the strumming patterns cited in the video -- very minor irritation. Time will tell if this DVD will help me in the long run but I don't regret the money I've spent.
