Great Band, Great Performance
The
1992
Tokyo
concert DVD captured what was great about
Guns
N
Roses
. their chemistry is evident as they played to a superenthusiastic crowd. The set covered their major hits and some other less recognized tunes. All however carry the mark of a band at its zenith. This DVD is the second of two DVDs and shows the second half of the concert. You need to purchase both DVDs to enjoy the complete concert. Awesome.
Great purchase along with the Use Your Illusion I DVD
This is a good DVD if you are into something beyond just performances of songs you're familiar with. Where UYI I DVD was mostly performances of some of the best songs of Appetite for Destruction and
Use
Your
Illusion
I, on this DVD you get a more personal look at each of the band members and they (everyone from Dizzy Reed and Gilby Clark to Slash and Duff)showcase their individual talents. Most DVDs tend to cut past these parts, which tend to be the most enjoyable part of such concerts.
While there weren't any songs I simply didn't like, I'll admit I fast forwarded through the drum solo until Duff and Slash came on stage. Matt Sorom is an OK drummer, but I've definitely seen and heard better solos than his, which went way too long. Highlights for me are Theme from The Godfather, which I actually wasn't familiar with but it was really well done, So Fine (it was great hearing Duff sing together with Axl on this slower song), Rocket Queen (interesting "rap" a la Axl in the middle), Knockin on Heaven's Door, and Estranged (really a beautiful performance of one of GNR's best songs).
Some people complain about the crowd, but for those familiar with concerts in Japan, this crowd is pretty typical. They're not rowdy like the crowds at American and European shows; the best way to describe them is "polite." It didn't really bother me and I thought the band did a great job keeping up the energy and show
Tokyo
a great time.
I won't complain about Axl's voice because what can you expect when he's screaming his heart out for nearly an hour and a half?? Of coarse he's going to sound a bit hoarse here and there. As for the rest of the band, I thought they sounded even better than on CD.
The only thing things missing from the DVD are bonus features such as more behind the scenes clips of the band, interviews, etc. Also, the sound quality is basically just like what you'd hear on a VHS.

4 Stars for Slash and Nostalgia
Let's get something straight first: Axel Rose's voice is completely shot and he spends the entire concert running around shirtless in tiny, sweaty little biker shorts. Perhaps that's
your
"thing", I don't know, but it certainly isn't mine. This is GNR at the absolute last second of their musical relevance. Understand that.
Still, I give it 4 stars beca
use
it is also a perfect "snapshot" of the Glam Rock at its...uh...glammiest. It's nostalgic.
That, and Slash's playing makes it well worth the money all by itself.

Well.....
When i was young i loved Gnr as mad that was the only band beside metallica i respected. i bought both dvd's and i must say honestly that i was not very impressed specially when i saw Axl Rose Jogging around The Stage loosing its breath every time you listened to a song, its not what i remembered of Gnr when i saw it live at the ritz that was a hell of a show, Appetite for destruction and
use
your
Illusion
seem to me of two different bands a heavy one for the first and a sissy one the second, sorry still a heavy metal fan.
