Brilliant account of a tragic story

On March 1st, 1932, a petty criminal by the name of Richard "Bruno" Hauptmann kidnapped and (probably accidentally) killed the infant child of Charles and Anne Lindbergh. This occurred at the Lindbergh's New Jersey estate, a house which they had only recently moved into. You will harbor no doubt whatever of the actuality of Hauptmann's guilt once you've read George Waller's fine account of the story and of the mountain of evidence that was brought against the illegal German immigrant.

Waller thoroughly examines every detail of the kidnapping, the subsequent national manhunt, and the wild and wooly trial (a media circus) of Hauptmann, who was ultimately executed for the crime.

Today, we think of a kidnapping as an event that is typically resolved by the FBI, one way or the other, within a week or so. Most readers who are unaware of the bizarre events linked to the Lindbergh baby kidnapping are astounded when they discover that it was over TWO MONTHS before the remains of the victim were found. And it was more than a year after that before Hauptmann was arrested for the heinous crime.

This is a fascinating and authoritative account of the Lindbergh baby kidnapping. A very lengthy and strange list of characters got involved in this huge event in American 20th Century history. This superb true crime account reads like a great novel and I give it my highest recommendation.
