This Brother serger sews seams, trims excess fabric and overcasts raw edges all in one step and at speeds almost double a normal home sewing machine. Freeing you to get creative, it features 22 stitch functions with 3- or 4-thread cut-and-sew over lock stitches, easy-to-follow lay-in threading and a F.A.S.T. lower looper threading system. It uses home sewing machine needles and has a free-arm/flat bed convertible sewing surface for greater control. Saving time and producing professional results, it features an easy-to-remove stitch finger for narrow/rolled edge, convenient stitch-width control, and outside differential feed control. Includes soft cover, tweezers, blind hem/multipurpose guide foot, thread spool cap, gathering foot, hexagonal wrench, cleaning brush, thread net, needle set, trim trap, a creative quick-start technique guide and instructional CD-ROMs.

Wow!

I chose this serger based on people who had actually used the machine. It is everything they said.

This is my first serger. Threading it is a breeze - just do it exactly as the instructions indicate. An extra light is helpful.

The video instructions suck. If you have never used a serger get some books and read them first.

my first serger

I researched a lot before I bought this serger. Since I don't have any experience with another serger, I will say that this one is a good quality for the price. The threading is a little tricky, even with color coding. Also, it took me 10 broken threads and 1 broken needle before I figured out that I had to rethread the needles when I rethreaded the loopers...EVERY time. That was a frustrating night. However, I really enjoy my serger and have enjoyed the professional looking seams.

a well-rounded machine

great for a beginner. easy-to-follow instructions for threading. took me a few tries to get the tension right but I think that's how it goes with sergers...

obviously this machine doesn't do everything a top-of-the-line machine would but it also doesn't cost as much.
