Canon EW83E Lens Hood for EF 16-35mm f/2.8L Canon SLR Lens
The
Canon
EW83E
is the proper
hood
for the Canon EF 16-
35mm
f/2.8L Canon
SLR
Lens
. It works as advertised and was shipped promptly. As with the other non-L Canon lenses, I feel that Canon should have included the hood with the lens, given the high price of the lens. The hood is essential for avoiding loss of contrast through ambient light induced flare.
Lost your lens hood/shade
Comes as standard with the
lens
.
So unless you lost yours you probably don't need it.
It is however highly effective in keeping those coloured doughnut shaped artifacts out of the image if the sun is potentially just out of shot.
The lens it fits is one of my all-time favourites performance-wise.

good
Attaches easily to the
lens
but I dont always use it because it must be removed to put into my bag.
Another "great-to-have" accessory to go in your camera bag
I bought this for my EF-S 10-22
lens
. The wide-angle lens
hood
is pretty flat, but large in diameter. That makes it hard to fit in to my camera bag. I can't put the lens into the bag with the lens hood on. I need to detach it and put them in separately. Often, I just get too lazy to put the lens hood back on. I don't notice much difference anyway. I wouldn't say it's a "must-have" accessory. It does block out light and protect your lens. The build quality is excellent too. Yet, I think it's a little bit expensive.

Effective, but a strange design
This
hood
is effective for the 17-40 on a fullframe camera, or the 10-22 on an APS-C camera. The problem with the hood is that it is physically very wide. I normally store my hoods reversed on the
lens
, and then I put the lens in a camera bag. The width of this hood can make that difficult. They could easily have designed a hood that is much closer to the diameter of the lens that would have eliminated this storage problem. This is a goofy hood; if you don't absolutely needs it, try to go without it.
