Enjoying the Sony RCD-W500C

I purchased the Sony RCD-W500C at the suggestion of a friend at work. I have many older albums that I wanted to try and record on a CD format. I spent about a week reading over the manual and another day or so getting familar with the controls on the deck. I am very pleased with the sound of the albums recorded on a CD format. The sound quality seems much better to me than the sound of many albums I have as CD's. The sound quality seems very smooth and has much more range than a cassette tape. I have never had any problem getting a CD to finalize. I am using TDK Music CD-R's to record. If you take your time reading over the manual and to get familar with the controls, you should not have any problems. It is very enjoyable to get an older album on vinyl on to a CD format. I have had very good results using Sony products.

Great, once you get through the manual

I previously owned a Sony CD recorder with which I was very happy, but it was damaged in a move from one state to another. I bought the RCDW500C because I figured it would be similar, which it is, except for having more drawers. There are a few other minor differences, but it essentially works the same. Unfortunately, I hadn't tried to make any CDs in a while so I'd forgotten some of the basics, and I have to agree with many of the people who have already mentioned that the manual is poorly and confusingly written. Also, I found the directions on how to connect a turntable or other outside element to the RCDW500C to be lacking and I had a little trouble doing that. Otherwise, it has performed well and I have made several fun compilation CDs so far. Once you get the basics down, this recorder is fairly easy to use.

Just incidentally, I initially inquired at both Best Buy and Target about CD recorders, and the 20something clerks had no idea what I was talking about. They insisted that what I wanted was a burner for my computer or something to hook up to my iPod. I'm not sure they knew what stereo components are, let alone a turntable.

Bought another one

This player recorder is really good, I use it every week at our church to record our praise service. We now have two, one for each sanctuary. It took a little bit to get through the instruction book, but once I mastered it, it has all of the functions I need. When you are recording live the make next track function is very useful to create breaks for the next song. The only thing I do not like is when nothing is happening it stops recording or creates lots of tracks, I now control that through the pause button.

Remark

On the Sony RCD-W500C/W100 I bought one about a month ago and have been pleased with it. I am able to record from CD to CD even thou I have not figure out how to adjust the volume while recording from CD to CD, and from Tape to CD which I can control the volume when recording from Tape to CD. I agree with everybody else on the instruction book that it's really confusing. So before you start read it over and over. I eventually will figure out how to set the volume when recording from CD to CD but I hate to mess with what I am able to do now considering all the bad feedback on this recorder.
