Plenty of cool archival footage

I received this item as a VHS box set for Christmas. I was pleasantly surprised by the program-- it is of a quality that would be shown on PBS. It could also be shown in the classroom and would hold students' attention. There is plenty, plenty, plenty of archival footage-- the show doesn't skimp there. Of course, it is impossible to narrow down one century's worth of achievements into 3 hours, but they do quite a good job. They did not try to squeeze in **everything**, which was a positive feature. It is a very watchable documentary-- not overwhelming-- and I did not get bored. I especially loved the footage of the Saturn V rocket launch for Apollo 11, as well as the old television footage of Edward R. Murrow (because I had just seen "Good Night and Good Luck"). This is a CBS News presentation, so you will see Dan Rather and Walter Cronkite from years ago, but no Peter Jennings, etc. Other than that, it is not biased. I recommend it both for people who remember most of the 20th Century as well as people who were born much later in it!
