One of the most charming and romantic films
around
, this 1940 comic romance finds James Stewart (Vertigo, It's A Wonderful Life) working in a small
shop
in Budapest and longing for a girl to call his own. His coworker, Margaret Sullavan, feels the same, and soon they are both corresponding and falling in love with their respective pen pals. What they don't realize is that they are writing to and falling in love with each other, but the problem is that they can't stand each other in person. The beguiling nature of the mistaken identity formula that influenced countless films is done to perfection here, and the wry combativeness and delightful banter between the two leads makes this a very special film. --Robert Lane

The original "You Got Mail"
A movie full of laughs. A terrific film that the modern copy " You Got Mail" doesn't do justice too. A black and white classic that keeps you in stitches but at the same time leaves you with that so good feeling when it ends. If you like the modern I think you would love the original even more.
One of the best movies ever
I love this movie. I first saw it at the library and checked it out. There have been several movies made with the same theme. I believe it is based on a play which was based on a book. You've Got Mail is the currently well-known one and was based on this movie. The case is simple and the dvd works great, but the film itself isn't perfect by most modern standards. It is old and not in color and Hungary looks more like Hollywood. Only a few actors use accents, the rest speak normally. At times it can be a bit cheesy. But I still love it. There aren't many movies I can watch more than once or twice without getting bored. This is one I can watch many times and still enjoy. Anyone who enjoys a good clean romance will find this delightful. Jimmy Stewart is particularly good.

The Lubitsch Touch Never Looked Better
One of Ernst Lubitsch's greatest films comes to DVD here. I can't speak as to the quality of the transfer, but to this layman it seems well-done and the disc has plenty of extras. This package shows just how much better the film is than its remake, YOU'VE GOT MAIL.
kinda slow
I expected more. Maybe I just like the remake (You've got Mail) better. Tried to watch this several times, but I fall asleep. Not Jimmy Stewart's best. Others in household don't care for it either. ????????????
