Repeating such simple tasks can help your baby learn about identifying and matching shapes. Placing blocks in the bucket helps develop hand-eye coordination. Engaging and educational toy!

My son received this as a gift when he was 12 months old and has played with it every single day since then. He is now 16 months old and continues to find different ways to play with the blocks, the container, or the lid when he finishes sorting them. It is the only toy that keeps him busy and engaged for a "long" time (i.e. 20 minutes or more in toddler time).

My Son's Favorite Toy

I bought this toy for my son when he was around 9 months old. He now is two years and two weeks old (born Halloween 2005) and he still prefers it over any other toy he's got - and he has MANY toys. The funny thing is that this toy is the simplest one he has, requires no batteries, is unbreakable, and is inexpensive and yet it has become his personal preference ever since I got it for him, so much so that he could care less about the expensive, noisy, flashy toys he has. He gets used to them in two days time. His first blocks have kept his interest for over 16 months now and that's really something for a child that has everything.

not just a shape sorter

Our baby uses this for filling and spilling (well, more dumping out that putting in!). We have put the lid away for now. When toddler friends visit, we bring it out and it's a whole new challenge. Truly a toy that grows with the child.

I prefer this cylindrically shaped toy to the box also sold by Fisher-Price because this offers more basic shapes (circle, triangle and square come before stars, people!).

Great shape sorter

I purchased these blocks so that my son could have a variety of toys. I did not want ALL of his toys to "do" something. Not only is this a great simple set of blocks, but it is great to have the shape sorter lid as well. They are very durable and very easy for even the smallest of babies to grab onto. Sometimes, my son would rather play with just the lid than the blocks! I have been very happy with this and would highly recommend it to someone looking for a toy that doesn't have all the bells and whistles.
