This is a magazine devoted to traditional conservatism - ideals and values with deep roots in America's history.

The Real Face of America's Conservative Movement

If you are emabarrassed by the low level intellects, the loud mouthed chicken hawks, and the globalist sell-outs who claim to speak for conservative America, you will find comfort twice a month in this fine magazine. There are no dumbed down articles, no childish insults and no old-left idealogy repackaged to look like conservative thought.

AmCon is anti-globalist, supports fair-trade over free-trade, recognises the cultural threat of immigration, stands bravely against wars of aggression while recognizing the need for a strong defence and Taki's column is the always most entertaining commentary in print.

Pro-American leftists will also appreciate this publication.

Fine Paleo-Conservative Bi-Weekly

Up until recently, I was highly ambivalent about this magazine. Although I consider myself a paleo-conservative, it has published a number of articles (in less recent issues, particularly), well, that have rubbed me the wrong way. However, recently - in a single issue, in fact - it published three of the best articles, book reviews, and reminiscences that I've read in at least the last year.

These pieces were "The Real McCarthy" by Ralph de Toledano, "Not Flirting With Fascism" by Paul Gottfried, and the lead article, the title and author of which escape me, that was the best argument against our current "democracy at gunpoint" campaign that I've yet read - it dealt with the threat of nuclear terrorism that is NOT state sponsored and was very sobering to read.

I didn't agree with the article they published quite a while ago that was a critique of Kevin MacDonald's trilogy about Jewish evolutionary behavior, not that I think MacDonald is 100% right. I think he puts somewhat more blame on the groups of cultural movers and shakers than they deserve, but I do think he raises many good points and facts that I would like to see refuted by his honest detractors. Nevertheless, one can't deny that non-Jewish individuals of Anglo-Saxon or other Western European background have certainly played a major role in betraying their own civilization; just look at Jane Fonda and her legion of white, gentile admirers, or the even more fruity (and probably pure caucasian) Ward Churchill and his. Also, I think MacDonald made a dubious decision in deciding to testify on behalf of David Irving at the famous libel trial. Nevertheless, I don't believe MacDonald is anti-Jewish, and calling his trilogy something like the Bible of the anti-Semites was quite unfair, I think.

Having said that, I must say the magazine is getting better all the time and is carrying an increasing number of truly superb articles. Also, Taki's column is always wonderful.

The Best Conservative Journal Currently

During last year's election year, I subscribed to three conservative journals (National Review, The Weekly Standard, and The American Conservative). The best part about the three was how different they were from each other. TWS in my opinion, was the magazine for the neo-conservatives (a crowd I am not a member of). NR champions the current Republican platform yet is backed up with some excellent writers. TAC, on the other hand offers traditional conservatism. Not exactly for everyone (The only person to endorse Bush in 2004 from the magazine was it's co-founder, Pat Buchanan, who is one of his harsher critics on the right). What makes it so great is that the articles offer conservative critique that may win over more liberals than conservatives at the end of the day. I myself, am not always in agreement with the articles I read. The columns from Pat Buchanan and Taki are worth reading by those on either side of the political spectrum. I recomend this one over NR and TWS but those who like a variety of conservative opinion should explore all three.

Honest and Iconoclastic.

Like most conservatives, I do not always agree with everything I come across in the American Conservative, but I generally find at least four or five articles to be pretty valuable. Basically, I love just about anything that Steve Sailer writes and he's the film critic there. Sailer also contributes full length articles as well. Jim Antle is also another one of my favorite writers, and, although he has moved on to The American Spectator, he remains a regular contributor. John Derbyshire is mostly found at NR but when his articles appear here they substantially elevate the worth of each issue. Derbyshire and Sailer are two of the most irreverent, politically incorrect, and brilliant writers in conservadom so any magazine that carries their stuff is one to be prized. The last issue had two features on Ron Paul which pleased me greatly. I'm glad that some important source is talking about the only legitimate libertarian among the candidates for 2008. Like with many other readers, I disagree with some of their foreign policy stances as I don't regard America as being an empire or that we're imperialistic. I also disagree with Dr. Paul about the notion of "blowback," but foreign policy isn't my major voting issue. Immigration and cutting the size of government are far more important to me than fielding an army in Iraq, so there's not much serious clash between my taste and that of the editors.

For the Disgruntled Conservative

The national Republican party seems doomed to be a permanent minority- unless they start to listen to the Buchananite voices found in this magazine. The voices in this little magazine could be what the conservative movement needs right now. It's more of a borders, language and culture conservatism- not what you find in THE NATIONAL REVIEW and the WALL STREET JOURNAL editorial page.

The only downside is the lack of humor- lots of gloom and pessismism about the present state of the Republican party.
