Expect no less from the real ECW

Unlike WWE dvds for ECW, this one features almost all the superstar's original entrances and music unedited, from RVD's "Walk" by Pantera, to Justin Credible's "Snap Your Fingers Snap Your Neck" by Grinspoon.

Back in the day, this must have been a great PPV for ECW, as was typical for the grungy promotion with a powerful fan base of 18-35 year olds. These days, with WWE thinking it was spoiling us the four years of the Attitude era, this is a rare example of what wrestling could and would be, from blood and violence to pure athletics and amazing displays of power and talent.

Lance Storm vs Jerry Lynn
Like the DVD promo says, this is a purist's dream match. Both men are on, and put on a classic ECW-style matchup. (9/10)

Simon Diamond and Devito vs Chris Chetti and Nova
I had no idea what was going on here, as it seemed Simon Diamond had a one on one matchup, which became a tag team matchup, and then another tag team ran in and interfered, including CW Anderson and others, until New Jack came out and beat everyone but Nova up. Really unsure as to what was happening the whole time. (6/10)

Yoshihiro Tajiri vs Super Crazy vs Little Guido
These three have had so many matches with one another, from tag teams to three way dances, and they never get old. The ending was a grueling, surprising one, which saw the two remaining men completely exhausted from battering one another. (10/10)

Justin Credible vs Sabu
The justification for this one was kind of weak, as Credible had a restraining order against Sabu, and the officials decide 'since tonight is "Anarchy Rulz", we're gonna ignore that legal document and let Sabu fight'. The match was great, and truly brutal, as Sabu, ever the innovator, shows me things I've never seen done with tables and chairs. (10/10)

ECW World Heavyweight Championship
Taz (C) vs Masato Tanaka vs Mike Awesome
This was Taz's last match for ECW, and the emotion really wasn't felt until the match ended, and we saw a proper send-off for Taz. Meanwhile, the majority of the match was a classic Awesome vs Tanaka bout that was as brutal, if not more so, than their ECW One Night Stand match in 2005. We lost a great wrestler in Mike Awesome and I mourn his loss (10/10)

ECW World Tag Team Championship
Tommy Dreamer and Raven vs Steve Corino and Rhino
This one was way too short to be of any greatness, but at least it provided a highly memorable funny spot of Raven getting rejected by the ring ropes when trying to rush in and help Tommy, which he talks about in a shoot interview years later. Even at 3 minutes, this match was fun to watch, and far better than most things I see on "ECW" these days. (6.5/10)

ECW Television Championship
Rob Van Dam (C) vs Balls Mahoney
Rob Van Dam more than proves why he is called Mr. Pay Per View. This match is an absolute classic in my view, not just from Rob Van Dam, but from Balls Mahoney too, who surprised me by showing he's not just a brawler---he could actually wrestle. The near falls these two had on each other, and the intense high spots were absolutely riveting, and this match was everything any wrestling fan could ever want. Rob Van Dam is a masterful wrestler, and even Balls Mahoney is spellbindingly talented. (10/10)

ECW's Pay Per Views are always a sight to behold, and I was lucky to have gotten this one on DVD to watch.

This is one of the many ECW DVD's worth Owning. I just recently got my copy Autographed by ECW Superstar Roadkill, talking about going up in value. Whooooo!

Hits, Misses, And A Changing Point In ECW

This PPV was really all over the place as it had some hits, misses, alot of last min. changes, and suprizes that you never expected. Lance Storm & Jerry Lynn had a pure wrestling match, Simon Diamond & Devito vs. Chris Chetti & Nova turned into a big cluster with tons of interfearence until New Jack came in & cleaned house, Tajiri vs. Little Guido vs. Super Crazy was a great 3 way dance featuring each's talents, and Justin Credible vs. Sabu was a big hardcore war. The ECW Championship match was suppost to be Taz vs. Masato Tatanka but it really became Tatanka vs. Mike Awesome featuring Taz as he was elimated in less the four mins. when Awesome showed up as a suprize. The Tag Team title match was basically Corino & Rhino beating down Dreamer & Francine until Raven came in to score the quick pin. TV Champion Rob Van Dam vs. Balls Mahoney was another last min. change as Johnny Smith from England was taken out before the match but this match showed that Balls could keep up with RVD and was more than just a guy who can only swing a chair.

Besides the Tag Team Title match, the New Jack segment, and the fact that Taz was only in the match for 4 mins....this was a nice DVD featuring ECW but not the best one out there.

"Anarchy Rulz" DVD Review

ECW's first ever "Anarchy Rulz" pay-per-view in 1999 was in my opinion, one of the best PPV shows that ECW put together. The sold-out crowd at Chicago's Odeum got to bare witness to an excellent mixture of hardcore violence, energetic high-flying moves, and a few extra surprises. As usual, Joey Styles provided the commentary but the recent added addition of Cyrus made for some amusing back and forth between the two. I always prefered Cyrus over the obnoxious Joel Gertner but that's neither here nor there. The show's main event saw Taz passing the torch to Mike Awesome in an impromptou 3-Way Dance. Other highlights had Jerry Lynn facing Lance Storm, New Jack taking out anyone he could with a barrel full of weapons, a tremendous 3-Way Dance featuring Tajiri, Super Crazy, and Little Guido, and Sabu having his suspension lifted to take on Justin Credible. The evening closed with Rob Van Dam taking on Ballz Mahoney in a match that doesn't exactly rank as one of RVD's greatest. Van Dam carries the larger and far less athletic Mahoney (who is used to working hardcore programs) for fifteen minutes. The match is not terrible but for a guy like Van Dam, known for show-stealing matches with more aggresive guys like Jerry Lynn, having to face a guy with a very limited range of offensive moves is a bit of a stepback. "Anarchy Rulz" was a quality show but as is usual with Pioneer, they have cut it down to remove a lot of the entrance music and backstage vignettes. Despite that, if you're an ECW fan, you'll want to grab this one if you can find it in the stores.
