Fed up with the congestion and allergies of Los Angeles life, a
family
of four forsakes the big city for an isolated cabin in the Rocky Mountains, in this 1975 film. Most of the
adventures
--good and scary--revolve around wildlife. Kids will get a kick out of the pet raccoon already in residence upon their arrival, the orphaned bear cubs who come to live with them, and the mountain lion cubs the kids bring home one day. But there is also an angry lioness, a menacing grizzly, and a pack of wolves who prove less than friendly. The good news is that no admirable characters die in the 97-minute film--not even the family's fearless dog, who challenges all of the hostile critters. And when an animal does die, while it is clear what happened, there is no gore. Instead, the camera focuses on gorgeous scenery, romping children, and creatures--and, occasionally, Dad's shirtless torso. Still, films don't get more wholesome than this one. The Adventures of the Wilderness Family
This is a wonderful film for the entire
family
. Maybe, due to the fact, we were living in Los Angeles, California, and just learned our children were reacting very badly to the bad air of LA, this film really hit home. We were preparing for our own relocation out of LA. Watching the part where the man yells out the window, "Let me out of Here", was one of the many areas, our family identified to the movie. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves the out doors, hates city life, and wants to have a good, clean movie to share with the kids of all ages.

THE WILDERNESS FAMILY
We are both for nature and these two dvd's are very much of our liking as of the realness of the dvd.
Loved it then and now
One of my all time favorites and clean enough for kids to enjoy now too.
I Liked This Movie!.
I'm glad that this movie is on DVD. I first saw this movie I was little and I enjoyed it. There have been complaints made about this movie having an unrealistc view about wildlife and that it's too sugary sweet and that children will think that they can go up to real wildlife and play with them but as another reviewer said only not so bright people with reality problems would think you can go play with a bear in the real life. I liked this movie and I think it's just a very enjoyable movie that is good for the whole
family
and I highly recommend it! BTW; I agree with the reviewer who corrected the reviewer who said the family in this movie wasn't stranded in the
wilderness
. They weren't stranded but moved there fully knowing that life in a wilderness can be harsh at times especially in the long cold winters. They moved to the wilderness because they wanted to get away from city noise and traffic and because one of their children had really bad allergies that were getting worse because of smog. It was another Robert Logan movie called The Sea Gypsies that had him getting stranded in the wilderness. In that Movie Robert Logan played a man who was trying to sail around the world with his family only to get stranded on an Alaskan Island after they were shipwrecked.

The Wildreness family is one Bear of a movie!
The
Wilderness
Family
is a movie that makes me think of an American Swiss family Robinson type movie. It's a story about a family learning to survive outside the realms of normal life. We see them struggle and we see them survive.
This is a movie that while it's like the Swiss Family Robinson, its not completly like them. The movie is about half as good but for children and families struggling in our current world trying to find good family entertainment, it is good enough.
The cinematography is sub par, and the acting is pretty good, but the scenery and the animals are really cool.
So I say if you you don't have the disney version of the Swiss family Robinson buy that instead, but if you already have it and want some good family entertainment, pick this up, you won't beat the price, and it really was enjoyable
