Tommy returns to the grave to make sure jason is dead and accidently brings him back to life. Studio: Paramount Home Video Release Date: 08/22/2006 Starring: Thom Mathews David Kagen Run time: 87 minutes Rating: R

You thought Jason was dead? Wrong, you forgot about the lightning bolt

Friday the 13th part VI was part II of Sid the Elf's Columbus Day B extravaganza if that makes any sense. We followed the awful Leprechaun in the Hood with this classic horror film. This issue of the ongoing Friday the 13th series is generally considered one of the, if not the best film. Due to the undeniable commercial success of these films, the series continues past roughly 55 "that has to be it, they can't possibly do another sequel" moments. While we aren't huge fans of some of the lesser films in the series, we must admit that the Jason character has held up much better than his counterparts. For example, you won't find bigger Halloween fans than Sid, but even we grew tired of those pointless sequels long ago. The key is that the Friday the 13th series and more specifically, the Jason character continue to be reinvented as this film exemplifies.

The movie starts with Tommy Jarvis, who killed Jason as a young boy, going to Jason's grave site. With the intention of sending Jason to hell, Tommy digs him up opens his coffin and stabs the junk out of him with a fence post from the cemetery. This probably made sense to Tommy because, you know, he was in a mental institution before that. Tommy leaves the metal post stuck in Jason's chest and starts to leave when a storm begins. WATFO! So, obviously, lightning strikes the post, resurrecting Jason, who immediately demolishes Tommy's buddy, Horshack(seriously, it was him). Tommy then has the sense to douse Jason with gas, but the falling rain prevents him from lighting a match, so that was totally useless. Now he has to do what he should have done from the second he saw Jason moving, run to his pickup and floor that thing like he was Sid chasing a pink negligee. Of course, the lightning enhanced Jason. Now he has even greater strength and psycoability. Naturally, Jason goes back to Crystal Lake(now called Forrest Green) and starts ripping through camp counselors like Santa rips through low-grade crab legs.

Meanwhile, Tommy goes to the sheriff to inform him of this clearly dire situation. And, believable as his story seems, they lock Tommy up thinking he's the one responsible for the murders at the camp given his history which we will cover in upcoming reviews of the series. Anyway, the sheriff's decently hot daughter(Megan) is the only one who believes Tommy. She helps him escape while locking her father's deputy in the jail cell. Then Megan helps Tommy execute his plan to send Jason back to the bottom of Crystal Lake where he drowned long ago. In case you were wondering, of course we had the requisite "Why not just move to Australia or something? He'll probably try to go there to get you, but it will take a long time and there's at least a decent chance he'll get eaten by a shark" conversation for about 20 minutes. Anyway, Tommy lures Jason into the middle of the lake where he is waiting in a boat. This genius decides to wrap one end of a chain around a huge rock and the other end around Jason's neck. Of course, Jason pulls Tommy down with him, causing Megan to swim to the boat to save Tommy. She just met this guy like, an hour ago. Man, she's really going the extra mile to get old Tommy's attention. Anyway, Jason grabs her leg to try to kill her, too. But, she starts the boat's motor just in the nick of time, shredding Jason's face in the process. This obviously causes him to let go of both Megan and Tommy. Now Jason is trapped at the bottom of Crystal Lake yet again. If you didn't already guess, the last shot of the film is Jason chillin at the bottom of the lake and suddenly opening his eyes.

This film was a true horror classic. It was pretty cliche, but we believe that the "horror movie formula" was largely created by the Friday the 13th movies, so it's ok. Jason had something extra in this one, supposedly it was the lightning. If he was like a baseball pitcher throwing 92 in the previous films, in Part VI he was painting the corners and topping 97 with regularity. See, this was like the steroid era for horror movies. Almost every killing was awesome, even making Sid go "OOOOOHH!" a handful of times. This film is right up there with other horror greats and completely sucked us into reviewing more Friday the 13th films in the very near future. So, if you haven't seen this movie, or if it's just been a while, get into October horror spirit and check it out. Sid promises it won't disappoint.

The best One!!!!

This is a perfect movie if you're looking for a slasher flick.in my opinion, you have to like the series to like this one. as well the rest. i have this one and also 1,2,3,4,7,8 and Jason Goes to hell.all i need to get is part 5 and jason X.im a big fan of the series.really excited about the remake thats releasing into theaters febuary 13th. ive heard there combining 1,2,3 and 4 into that one movie. So if youre a fan of the series like me,buy this and dont rent it. yeah its that good.

"So, what were you gonna be when you grew up?"

After Friday the 13th, Part V - A New Beginning, this once-proud franchise was in dire need of an even newer beginning, and writer/director Tom McLoughlin really came through, basically, as far as I'm concerned, saving the series. Not only do we get the real Jason back, he's bigger and badder than ever. We also return to Camp Crystal Lake (now renamed Forest Green in a rather transparent attempt to excise the whole Jason "legend" from the area), where we not only have camp counselors but - for the first and only time in the series - actual campers. Naturally, there's no way to resurrect Jason without resorting to some kind of hokey miracle - after all, the dude's been rotting in his grave for several years now. Apart from that, though, the script is surprisingly good, and the kills are very good indeed (even though the best parts of many of them were once again toned down and edited in order to secure the film an R rating). On top of all that, McLoughlin was able to sprinkle in some scattered bits of humor in ways that actually worked - which is no small feat in and of itself.

It's best just to pretend that Friday the 13th Part V - A New Beginning never happened - and the fact that Tommy Jarvis is now played by Thom Matthews (the third Tommy in as many movies) makes that a little easier to do. It seems that our boy Tommy has been released from whatever mental hospital he had been living in over the last few years - but he still has nightmares about Jason (quite understandable). Well, he's sick of all that and returns to the scene of Jason's crimes to dig the monster up and make sure he's thoroughly destroyed. Unfortunately, his little plan backfires and he accidentally brings Jason back to life. Not surprisingly, no one - least of all Sheriff Garris (David Kagen) - believes his "Jason's coming" song and dance. No one, that is, except the Sheriff's daughter Megan (Jennifer Cooke) - and that's only because she thinks Tommy's cute. Well, people start dying in gruesome ways as Jason makes his way back "home," and Tommy takes it upon himself to stop Jason once and for all, a feat which requires a little something extra since Jason is now super-strong and sort of dead and alive at the same time.

Boy, psycho killer-murdering guys fresh out of mental institutions really get the chicks. Who knew? Megan may well be the best-looking girl in the whole series, and she's willing to disobey her sheriff father (and who knows how many laws) just to go Jason-hunting alongside Tommy; heck, she even risks her life for the guy. Looking at the larger picture, though, you can't help wondering why Green Forest (nee Crystal Lake) keeps reopening its camp sites. How many dozens of innocent lives must be snuffed out in that area before people start thinking it might not be safe to send little Johnny to camp there?

On a final note, I have to say that this film features some of the best moments in the entire series. I love the James Bond-inspired opening credits, which come after a surprise appearance by Welcome Back, Kotter's very own Horshack (Ron "Don't Call Me Ronald" Palillo). Then there's the manner in which Jason rearms himself with a machete - that's probably my favorite part of the entire movie. Of course, there are more subtle moments, as well, such as the sight of one little girl camper sitting up in bed reading Jean-Paul Sartre's No Exit. And who could forget the great deadpan line delivered by one of the two "dead meat" boys as they wait to see if anyone can stop Jason from coming in and slaughtering them and everyone else in the room. It's pretty easy to see why many a Jason fan considers this the best Friday the 13th film of them all.

Ahead of its time -- No, really

In "The Final Chapter," Tommy Jarvis "kills" Jason with a machete. Now two films later, Tommy tries to put his haunted past behind him by digging up Jason to make sure he's dead. In the process, a bolt of lightning strikes Jason's long-dead corpse and reanimates him. Doh!

From the premise, it's clear that "Jason Lives" isn't taking itself too seriously, and that the franchise has taken a badly needed tonal detour. (This is a full decade before "Scream" performed the full overhaul on the slasher yarn). But "Jason Lives" differs from the other Friday the 13th films up to that point in that it is Tommy Jarvis rather than Jason Voorhees who is the true protagonist in this story. In this respect, "Jason Lives" resembles the "Evil Dead" series more so than any other Friday the 13th film. Like the setup where Ash must vanquish the evil spirits he's unwittingly unleashed, "Jason Lives" is about a man who's opened a pandora's box, and spends the rest of the film trying to stuff the beast back into that box. Definitely worth watching for fans of the 80's B-movie and slasher genre. A killer-B all the way.

He's back

This time we have Jason brought back from the dead and ressurected by his old nemesis. Tommy Jarvis (Thom Mathews from Return of the Living Dead) is still haunted by his run in with Jason as a child. This movie disregards part 5. Tommy is not the crazy guy he was in the fifth movie. But instead Tommy is a rational, somewhat posessed individual this time. He is a man on a mission. He wants to make sure Jason is dead for good.

I have a theory as to why Jason did all of those murders. Well, not actually a theory but some cold hard evidence. Jason had a small penis. Yes fans, that is why Jason commited all of those murders. Not because of his mother's death. Not because he was deformed. But the fact that he had penis envy. Big guy. Small willy.

Now that Jason's motives are so clearly revealed, he hacks up plenty of victims in this movie. He is especially angry in this time. I'm not sure Tommy knows his secret since he doesn't speak about it in the entire movie. But Tommy must bury Jason for good in this one. But will he?
