The past presents a harrowing case and an unsettling personal dilemma for Lucas Davenport, in a spellbinding new
Prey
.
With each new book, John Sandford's Lucas Davenport novels grow deeper, richer, more suspenseful, and their audience grows even larger. The best, however, is yet to come.
When Davenport is called to the white-stuccoed house, after the party, he knows it's for no usual case. For one thing, the strangulation victim is Alie'e Maison, she of the knife-edge cheekbones and jade-green eyes: as models go, one of the biggest. For another, there are a few small complications. Such as the drugs in her body and the evidence that she had recently made love to a woman. Such as the fact that one of Lucas's own men had been at the party, and is now a suspect. Such as the little surprise they are all about to find when they search the house: a second body, stuffed in a closet, with a deep dent in its skull.
The whole case is going to be like this, Lucas knows--secrets piled upon secrets, the ground shifting constantly under his feet. But even he cannot suspect the earth tremors he is about to feel, when an old lover comes back into his life, a married woman now...whose own secrets may turn out to be the most dangerous ones of all.
Filled with brilliant characters and exceptional drama, this is Sandford's most suspenseful novel yet.

Quite a puzzler!
When model Alie'e Maison is found strangled to death in the aftermath of a party - and then a second woman (Sandy Lansing) is found murdered and stuffed in a closet, a media feeding frenzy threatens to cause trouble for Chief of Police, Rose Marie Roux. As Lucas Davenport races to solve the mystery, bodies begin to pile up - Alie'e's photographer, her parents, suspects and material witnesses in the case - and meantime time is running out before an all-out media blitz/political war ensues, that could potentially destroy the careers of Lucas and all his friends on the force.
We're kept in the dark as much as those solving the crime in this novel. There isn't much I can say about that without completely spoiling the book for those who haven't read it, other than to say that when the case is finally solved, the perp comes from WAY out in "left field," so to speak.
An engaging book and one I definitely recommend for fans of this series, or of a good mystery/thriller.

Another Good One
As usual, Sandford doesn't disappoint in his portrayal of Lucas Davenport. Great mystery and police procedural.
He does it again
Again Sanford has come through with an outstanding book. Holds ones interest from the first page to the end and makes one wish it would never end. Enjoyed it just as much or more than the previous
Prey
books.
