My father got a reel-to-reel copy of "AQUELLAS LINDAS MELODIAS"from an vynil LP by the early sixties... Since then (when getting imported records was a titanic empress) I've been searching for more songs from Guillermo Portabales.¡I'm inmensely happy to find so much "new" rediscovered material here in Amazon!
THis CD'deserves a 10 in my scale for Cuban 'SON'singers and ¡Listen to his guitar!but never skip "AQUELLAS LINDAS MELODÍAS"... That recording is Beyond my scale. One I would take if i naufragate on a lonely island -and I have some thousands of records-. If you like SON MONTUNO, RUMBA DE SALÓN, GUAJIRAS.PORTABALES IS A MUST Have..."Aquellas lindas melodías" for sure. This "Amorosa guajira" w'ont dissapoint you.

WOW

I just happened to stumble upon this guy while looking for some old classic down and dirty "campesino" cuban music and was blown away!!! The combinations of "punto guajiros" and OLD classic toons that I remember back home when my dad would turn the radio to WQBA on hot and muggy sunday mornings in Miami. Ahhh...before you know it this album takes you back 70 years to the backwoods of Cuba when life was a bit more, well... "bonito y sabroso". I highly recommend this one folks.

CORNY AND PERFECT

I received a cassette of this tape from a friend in Colombia and haven't taken it out of my car tape deck yet. Portabales voice drips with sincerity and sweet emotion. These songs are classicas...you'll find them on Barbarito Torres new disk. Beautiful guitar...siempre me hace llorar ese disco. Import is a little grainy but has more depth...I think the US release took out a little too much of ot the huskiness in Portabales' voice. Escuchalo amigos!
