OF
CHRISTMAS

If you only own one Christmas music recording ...
... this is THE ONE! Like several of the other reviewers of this magnificent recording, I originally bought it as an LP and literally wore it out. It has been used to greet
Christmas
morning in my home ever since. The first cut, "Hark the Herald Angels Sing," NEVER FAILS to make me a bit leaky around the eyes, especially when the chorale comes in. Many of the same cuts are on the very similar "Joy to the World" CD by the same artists, but in a different order. Greeting the newborn Savior on Christmas morn with the trumpet fanfare in "Hark" is part of what has come to define my Christmas.

excellent holiday background music
This is the album from my youth while opening packages! Was excited to find it in CD form. All beautiful orchestra instrumentals on the holiday classics. Perfect for holiday moodsetting background music. Also nice to play while driving to get into the holiday spirit! One of our all time favorites.
Gorgeous
This is a timeless ochestrial masterpiece. No one does it quite like the Philly Orchestra. This is one that I have listened to every
Christmas
season for decades. A must have for any library. The digital regeneration of this album is very well done and adds even more texture to the music.

Best Chrismas Album EVER
Yes, that's is it. God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman will make you charge, O Come Emmanuel will make you melt, and stop whatever you are doing just to absorb into your soul that beautiful, rich, "
glorious
" music. Like other reviewers have said, this album got played and played and played. Each
Christmas
, my mother would stack her favorite Christmas albums, and let em rip all weekend long. For all of us, though, this was THE ONE. I have bought the albums, the CD's, and the mp3 downloads. Whatever comes next, I am going to own it. Best ever, ever, EVER, EVER.
Another Great Ormandy Christmas Album
Evidently Eugene and CBS made so many recordings to go around - the only negative I have to say about the compilation is that a number of cuts on this CD are also on other CD's - LP's that I have. I thought this would be all music that was specific to this album. If you already own the other Ormandy recordings of
Christmas
music you might want to check this out.
The age of the recordings is barely noticeable - manifested by slight tape hiss in the background; not noticeable unless played on high resolution equipment. Anyone listening to MP3 should disregard this comment as it just does not apply, does it?
Outstanding performances by all. I was a kid when Mr. Ormandy passed away, I always loved the Philadelphia Orchestra and his conducting thereof. What an absolutely
glorious
sound
the engineers extracted and recorded! What is great now a days: the recordings are on CD. The lp's from CBS were so damn awful - I remember how noisy the vinyl was when comparing to Phillips / RCA / DG pressings.
