With a minimum freezing temperature of ?4 degrees F, the Simac
Gelato
Junior
takes only about 30 minutes to satisfy your craving for a frozen confection. Plus, the built-in compressor freezer operates continuously, so you can turn out multiple flavors of ice cream while your guests finish their dinner. A 60-minute electronic timer frees you up for other activities, and an automatic safety mechanism sounds a warning beep if the integrated spatula blade gets stuck. A removable 1-quart bowl, transparent lid, and slim ingredient window all simplify operation, and the unit is also useful for crafting frozen drinks and chilled soups. Though not lightweight at 31 pounds, the Gelato Junior is fairly sleek for its class, measuring 11 by 14 by 12-1/4 inches. Simac includes a booklet of tasty ice cream, sorbet, and dessert sauce recipes, as well as an ice cream scoop. --Emily Bedard

Wow!! Reap the Benefits of the More Expensive Units at About 1/3 the Cost!! Great Machine To Own!! I Love It!!!
This unit is a true blessing!!
I had this machine now for a little over 5 years, and let me tell you that it's a godsend!! I'm so thrilled to have this great unit!! Every conceivable frozen treat can be made with this machine! It STILL cranks out the most beautifully-made luscious ice cream as ever, like it did when I first got it!!
The usual drudgery of struggling with those manual units where you have to hand-crank them until your arms feel like they're about to fall off of you are completely done away with, and so is the messy job involved with clipping ice blocks to small pieces to fit into the ice bucket that surrounds the canister, and storing rock salt which is needed to made the ice colder!!
Gone also, are the tedious problems associated with making room to store those pre-freeze bowls in the freezer for about 8-9 hours that come with the small units that make you pre-freeze the bowl first before making ice cream! These units are ridiculously time-consuming, not to mention being a waste of time!! And if you want to make more than one batch, forget it! You'll have to pre-freeze the bowl again for another 8 - 9 hours to make more!!
This unit is simplicity in and of itself! You just turn on the main (amber) switch located at the back of the machine. This starts the compressor and the internal condenser cooling fan. While the freezing chamber is getting cold, just pour your pre-made pre-chilled mixture into the removable bowl or bucket, which it looks like a little boy's sand bucket. Lower the bucket into the chamber, fit the churn motor head with the attached paddle, set the churning time, press the start button, and away you go!!
You're on your way to making some of the best ice cream that you ever tasted!!
This unit is amazing! It has built-in safety features which help prevent the churn motor from burning out, as well as audible sound(beeps) to alert you when the timer is about to time out, or when the ice cream has hardened and the churn motor has overheated and the safety thermostat is about to kick in.
Great for making those luscious summertime treats that you and the kids enjoy! Let the kids get in on the action and fun, also. They'll just LOVE the fun and joy of making ice cream and watching the machine at work!!
I bought 3 extra little buckets for those times when I make two or three batches. Eliminates having to wash and reuse the same one all the time! Just leave the main switch on until you are done with all of the batches.
Even though this unit's main cabinet is plastic, it is very strong, sturdy and durable! It costs far less than the stainless steel bodies on the higher-priced units, but it does just as good a job making those luscious frozen treats for you and the kids to enjoy any time of the year!! I love it!!
This machine, even though it is sold under different model numbers or company names, is made in Italy by
Lello
Appliances Corporation. It is principally the same machine reguardless of who's name is on it. I've even seen it with a stainless steel body as well!!
But you won't go wrong. I've had it for 5 years, and I can tell you that making ice cream now has never been easier or better! It's a doll!! Far better than the electric ice-&-salt-using hissing squeaking monster it replaced!!

Dee-lish!
I did quite a bit of research before arriving at the
Lello
Gelato
(formerly Gelato Jr.). This little workhorse stacks up to machines that sell for twice the price elsewhere! And Amazon had it cheaper (with Amazon Prime free shipping!) that anywhere else online. Regarding its performance, it does all it claims to do. The motor was improved in this
4070
model to include an auto-shutoff mechanism if the mixture freezes solid, so the motor doesn't burn out. The only technical issue is that the lid is attached to the motor, and you have to wipe off any splatters with a damp cloth after use. The lid remains clean, however, if you just remember not to overfill the freezing chamber, as the mixture will aerate and increase in volume during freezing. For you beginners: if the ice cream/yougurt/etc. doesn't come out well, it's not the machine's fault--you just need to keep tweaking the recipe until you get the right flavor and consistency! [...] has great, hard-to-find, safe-to-eat food additives to help you with this if you're interested in exploring the "molecular gastronomy" side of frozen treats!
Happy experimenting! :D

Great ice cream in 30 minutes!!!!
I've had big fun making great, fresh ice creams for my family and friends!! This is a great machine! You can make a great ice milk in a couple minutes, and the machine will freeze it in 30.... ready to serve while you eat dinner!! It is very impressive to guests!!
Great little machine
The machine was a little bigger than I expected, but it fits on the counter nicely and does an excellent job of making a smooth and creamy end product. It's relatively quiet and efficient. Watch it closely to avoid over mixing (makes for a grainy texture) the first time you try a new recipe.
I didn't care for the recipes in the booklet. As a former professional, I reccomend finding a good recipe book by a reputable pastry chef, which will give you better tips for at-home success.
My only complaint is that although the lid removes completely, you can't submerge it in water because there is a small fan attached to it. You can only wipe it down with a damp cloth.
