Perfectly adequate
I was looking for a cheap boom box that would be loud enough to dance too without sucking down batteries at an alarming rate. This fit the bill perfectly. The sound is surprisingly good (as well as loud enough) for something so inexpensive. As a plus, it is nice and light too. It is obviously cheaply built - the buttons are loose, and the CD tray needs coaxing. But given it's price, it is a great little machine. And it does play CDs I burned without coaxing, which is more than I can say for my last CD player.
Hard to read buttons
The sound seems good so far. There are fewer and fewer players on the market that can take casette tapes, so I guess I shouldn't be too critical. Two problems though. The first is that the labels for the buttons are in black type on black plastic, making it difficult to know what button to use. I'm sure I'll be fine with this after I've memorized all the functions. Until then I'll be using a flashlight to figure it all out. The second issue is about the preset radio stations. There are ten possible presets, but you go through them only in one direction. This means that you have to go through all the empty ones (staticky) to get back to preset 1, 2, 3 again. I had a Sony that had a little wheel for this, so you could go backwards as well as forwards. Generally, the functions aren't very intuitive, as someone else mentioned. I wouldn't give it to anyone over forty. If you're going to buy it, get a little flashlight too.
