Don'twait for your next camping trip to enjoy a toasty, crackling outdoor fire. With this durable 35" copper fire bowl, you can roast s'mores or marshmallows, any night the mood strikes, right in your own backyard. The ample and attractive bowl sits safely in a black metal stand and features a sturdy screened top to keep sparks and drifting pieces in. Top easily removes using the included lifting tool. Assembles easily with included hardware. Bowl is copper. Stand and top are wrought iron with a powder coat finish. Imported. 14Hx35" dia.

Additional cover not necessary

I agree that this is a good product for the price. However, note that it comes with a basic black cover and so the bundled offer for the "Veranda Fire Pit Cover, in pebble, fits fire pit up to 44" diameter" for an additional $14.99 is really unnecessary. I ended up sending it back.

Creature Comforts

In my neighborhood lined with the hissing of busy backyards, over the fence gossip has it that the Copper Fire Bowl is overpriced, and that you might get similar results from using a concrete birdbath, but I have no such complaints about my purchase. Originally we planned to have one child stand there, at the entrance to the alley, lifting the firebowl aloft to mark the opening of the South of Market (San Francisco) "Spring Olympics," for what would an Olympic Opening Ceremony be without a fire bowl swinging like an incense burner, held high by last year's champion athlete (in our case, speller)? Then our plans got scaled back some when some of our neighbors converted to condos and half the children on the block moved to another part of the world.

Bring your copper fire bowl down to the beach at night, watch the ocean lit up through the seductive blue and orange flames of your safely contained campfire, throw on some chestnuts and marshmallows and you've got yourself a feast. And when you're done, pick up the handy metal stand (black which sets off the pretty copper color nicely) and tuck it under your arm, head back to the car or bus. You could top it off with the pebble veranda cover, sort of like a tablecloth of stone for your fire bowl, but I have found it not the easiest item in the world to clean, and though the dogs don't mind licking it off from time to time, I worry about their rough tongues somehow damaging or staining the pebble-like finish.

You could sit for hours watching the fire ebb and flame through the mesh like screen attachment, which is like watching a movie in 3-D, while feeling the heat on your face and along the long sweep of your legs as, cross-legged, you meditate on the sand or on the rugged crabgrass of your backyard barbeque area. Don't be surprised when nearby forest animals, such as squirrels or rabbits, approach cautiously, drawn by the spectacle and the concomitant promise of warmth. You'll see their eyes first, mindless blips among the hedges, and then you'll see their sharp noses come bounding out like little kangaroos. Keep some nuts and carrots on hand for such nocturnal animal visitations.

You get what you pay for

The design is attractive and it works. It comes with a handle on the lid, and a tool to lift off the lid when the fire makes it too hot to touch -- a thoughtful detail. The copper is so thin that the bowl bends easily - but that means it's also easy to bend back into shape. For a similar price, the CostCo version is sturdier, but Target's version is good value for the price. I just wish any of these companies would provide a metal grate for grilling - you might guess they'd be really easy to find, but it turns out it's not so easy!

Good new patio gift

I gave one of these to each of my sisters, both of whom are putting new pools in the back yard. They seemed very pleased. I did notice that the metal does not appear to be wrought iron, but just painted. and the weep hole in the bottom of the pit gets clogged easily after a rain, so it is important to keep it clean or covered. It is very attractive and I hope it will provide several seasons of warmth.
