School Nurses are often the first to recognize that a child is having a problem. Children and their families turn to school nurses because of their knowledge of health care, the confidentiality and protection of their office, and their warm and caring manner. These characteristics place school nurses in the forefront in the lives of students and their parents, teachers, and the community. Because school nurses are significant during good times as well as disasters, this program, funded by Johnson & Johnson has been developed to provide information in the following six critical areas: 1) Role of the School Nurse in Time of Disaster 2) Crisis Management 3) Anxiety Disorders 4) Trauma 5) Grieving 6) Communicating with Young People about a Disaster
