Outstanding French horror film.

I heard about how gory and violent this French horror film was but I had no idea what I was gonna expect while watching Inside and I thought it was absolutely brilliant, finally we get to see a horror flick that pushes the boundaries of onscreen violence and yet still turn out to be great. It is truly one of the most gruesome films I have ever seen, its so over the top that you'll feel shocked afterwards and its guaranteed to get under your skin, it seems like the French have once again triumphed in bringing us yet another gory masterpiece. First it started with High Tension and now we have this great horror/gore flick, both directors Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury use some great techniques to creep out the audience although there is lots of blood and gore in the film I think they managed to make it look stylish and it looks quite impressive, the special fx looked realistic and gory as hell its almost disturbing (how did they make the huge scissors look like it went through that guy's skull?) and not to mention the great cinematography that makes use of the low light in the house it has a European flair atmosphere, the film has come out more recently and it seems like France knows how to make a proper horror film unlike Hollywood where they usually like recycling the same idiotic ideas over and over again. I consider Inside to be one of my favorite modern horror films along with Frontiers. Sarah played by Alysson Paradis has just suffered through a car accident which killed her husband leaving her pregnant and lonely, four months later she leaves the hospital still feeling a bit depressed and she's one day away from her due date. She enters her house and soon enough she gets terrorised by this insane and psychotic woman who wants to kill her and take her baby, Sarah's maternal instincts start kicking in and she soon starts hiding and locking her self in the bathroom while this other woman starts brutally killing and slashing various people who enter the house including the police. Yep this was a very gory film so if your squeamish about these things then forget it but if your a gorehound then you'll love it, theres this one scene where a guy gets viciously stabbed in his crotch and theres lots of blood being sprayed all over the place yes very nice! its like watching a modern Lucio Fulci flick only with better acting and great production values. The premise might be simple and there were a few plotholes but the way the film was set up was fantastic, I must admit that it made me cringe a few times and I'm a hardcore horror fan. The story was pretty good and kept simple pregnant woman in peril fighting for her life and defending herself from this mysterious woman, as soon as the mysterious and psychotic woman's (Beatrice Dalle) intention is revealed you wouldn't care cause the bloody finale was quite shocking. It takes its inspiration from High Tension and is possibly one of the goriest films I've seen so far and it was absolutely brilliant, yes indeed we need more of these disturbing and shocking gore flicks just as long as they are nicely made like this one oh and make sure you get the unrated edition since there was another cut edition that was released so be careful, I highly recommend this to true horror fans.

Actually I don't think the word brutal even begins to describe this shocking movie. If you like your violence violent and your gore gory, then you will love this film. This movie hits the viewer like a punch to the face right from the start and turns into a two hour pummeling that makes even The Texas Chainsaw Massacre feel like a pillow fight.

The plot is simple, straight forward, and explained plenty of times by other reviewers. It drives the movie yet doesn't get in the way of the action by trying to explain too much. Don't expect a thought-provoking intellectual film...this here is pure brute physical force.

Wow. Really well done!

I wasn't too sure about this film since the cover looked like one of those, "The cover is better than the movie." Actually, I wish they hadn't given so much away on the cover! Great beginning, great ending, excellent effects. Even the CGI is pretty good - not being a fan of CGI myself. Very dark and creepy story. I have to admit being scared a couple of times. :) Beatrice Dalle is just wonderful and very spooky!! A must have!

Makes Saw look like a Disney flick

This is a pretty hard film to review. On one end, its controversial and just plain wrong. On the other end, its a sick, twisted, gut-wrenchingly wicked intense thriller. It simply works. I would not call this a straightforward horror movie, per se. It is mostly a thriller but an extremely suspensful and well executed one. This is not for the squeemish in any way. If you love your blood and gore and disembowlments to the maximum, then you simply must watch Inside. Yes it is in french, however, since there actually isnt much dialogue in this very short movie, you hardly even notice the subtitles after a while. All I have to say is that I'm glad I wasn't pregnant and watching this. It is the most nightmarish of films and gets under your skin. I havent seen a film like this in years, maybe never. There are a few minor points I could argue, mostly about the stupidity of certain people in the film that are borderline cliché, but it doesn't really distract from the otherwise solid film.

Some great acting in a so-so movie

This movie does have a few effective suspenseful moments, and the performances by Beatrice Dalle and Alysson Paradis are truly special. It's just too bad that the whole production is marred by some awful make-up effects (little details that make the blood-n-guts look real were just abandoned here - all too often, Sarah looked like she just needed a towel, rather than a trip to the emergency room. It really killed the suspense for me in a lot of scenes). Some silly plot mechanisms also didn't help, and don't get me started on that ridiculous CGI fetus. However, I still recommend this flick for the performances by the two leads. While everyone talks about Beatrice Dalle's menacing La Femme (and boy is she menacing), Alysson Paradis' shattered Sarah is what really grounded the movie for me. When the movie works, its because of them.
