If you're looking for an upbeat, toe-tapping pregnancy workout video, this volume in Denise Austin's Gold Signature Series should fit the bill nicely. Famous for her cheerleader style, Austin--pregnant with her first child here--packs this program with energetic aerobics, helpful posture and breathing tips, substantiated advice, and plenty of TLC. The action begins with a physician's perspective on prenatal exercise and a review of important safety guidelines presented by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Then it's off to a pastel paradise--the workout set--where Austin and two pregnant students smile and prance their way through 30 minutes of low-impact aerobics. As a bonus, the tape includes a follow-up visit to Dr. Giere, who addresses the best approach to postnatal exercise, followed by a 20-minute "after-baby shape-up" routine. Best for the high-spirited exerciser who enjoys a gregarious instructor, this video probably won't appeal to expectant moms who prefer a quieter, more subtle approach to fitness. --Liane Thomas

Nice tape for your pregnancy

I bought this tape when I was about 8 weeks pregnant. I used it up until 30 weeks, and even though it is old (1990), it's very enjoyable.
It's only a half hour, so your not getting bored. The moves are easy to follow, and I love the workout for your arms. Denise is a bit goofy, but I enjoy her enthusiasm.
All in all I would say effective and well worth it!

Good pregnancy and follow-up workout

I used this workout all through my pregnancy, clear up until a couple days before delivery. It was enough of a workout to get the blood pumping, but without raising my heart beat up past what doctors say is safe during pregnancy. Ask your doctor before doing the floor work portion of the workout in the last trimester though. This is a slower paced workout, but really helps keep problems like high blood pressure, weight gain and other pregnancy related problems to a minimum.

The after delivery workout is great too, but if you have a c-section you can't do the exercises. I just did the pregnancy workout after I was cleared to exercise again, and did the bounce back routine after my incision healed.

Following the pregnancy workout is a short relaxation and cool down period. The stretches felt good, but I found this part of the workout to be a bit annoying. I love Denise Austin, but her chatter can get on my nerves sometimes -- especially when I'm 8 months pregnant. :o)

I'd recommend this workout for expectant mothers who want to prevent excessive weight gain, and those who weren't in great shape before becoming pregnant. It can really help boost your energy level.

Not if you're familiar with aerobics

This tape is ok for beginners (she takes time to explain proper positions, etc.) but I found it less than rewarding. Walking around while pumping your arms would have been as effective and cost much less!

irritating but effective

This video used to be the only one available for pregnant people. I have used it for three pregnancies, including my current one which is a twin pregnancy. The music is elevator Glori Estefan. Denise is a little too perky for the hormonal, the moves are dated and the costumes are ridiculous. That being said, it's great for begining exercisers or off days for those who are too tired for anything more intense. There are some weak toning exercises for the core and lower body after the 20 minute cardio segment. You could always put it on mute and listen to better music!

Good but old

This tape was good but it is old. The moves were really good and kept me entertained for 30 min. but the music could be better. I paid only a couple bucks so I felt like I got what I paid for, but not too disappointed. I was on 10 weeks of bedrest and wanted to get back into shape after being an avid exerciser. Overall, I thought it was good.
