Lightly toasted magic

Kendra Tamale returns to Britain from Australia following a failed affair. She goes back to work for an old friend. Life should become much simpler for her now, but it wouldn't make much of a story if that were the case.

Of course there are many complications, and her awful history catches up with her. There are quite a few imaginative twists and turns along the way, which keep the reader interested. There are also plenty of amusing parts to stumble across.

For me there was only one upsetting aspect of this fiction. The evil wrongdoer shares my name, Lance. That aside, I would recommend this marvellous tale to any of my friends and family.

Left me with mixed emotions

This is my first time reading a Dorothy Koomson book and I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the character of Kendra was well developed and of course, my favourite characters were Summer and Jaxon who sounded adorable. I hated their mother and wondered at how selfish she could be when she kidnapped them. On the other hand, she is a mother and you could feel her anguish at having some other person look after her children. But you also have to wonder at what makes her so special that she can't recover while looking after her children. She couldn't be worried that the kids were see her at her worst because they have already had some glimpses of that. She could feel that she doesn't deserve the kids but she is punishing the kids as well by taking herself out of their lives.

On the other hand, I see Kendra slowly recovering from the trauma of what happened to her years ago and feel that she is made of stronger stuff.

A good read that left me with some mixed emotions.
