Ultimate (low) Power
This was a title I was expecting to be mind-blasting but,... alas, the story isn't all that great and too many characters prevent good characterization of some of them. Besides there are some plot points that don't add up (why would Burbank need to ally himself with Doom? He already had the probe...)and the art isn't the best produced by Greg Land (look for X-Men:Phoenix Endsong - much better).
I like both teams: Supreme
Power
(the Straczynski/Frank MAX run) and
Ultimate
s (the Millar/Hitch run), but here, they don't quite "feel" right... I can only dream of a crossover with this two teams in a MAX title written by Straczynski and Millar and drawn by Brian Hitch. That would be something...

Could and SHOULD have been so much better
The
Ultimate
s Volumes 1 & 2 (only, 3 sucked) were both incredible. Supreme
Power
was incredible. Ultimate Fantastic Four & Ultimate Spider-Man - when written by Bendis or Millar - incredible. Ultimate X-Men - ditto. What do we get here? Lots of inexplicable plot points and fighting. Great art - but a story that is confusing and ultimately unsatisfying for MAX or Ultimate
Marvel
fans. This should have been at least three issues longer - and I mean three issues of back story and character development. In other words, written the way Ultimates 1&2 or Supreme Power 1&2 were written. This, I am afraid, has Joseph Loeb's brainless writing all over it.
